Description
Originally owned by Milford Haven Port Authority, it was sold to a private owner who converted it into County specification, with four rear seats, inward-facing, and customised it in other respects. The two front seats have recently been re-covered in new Exmoor trim. Its present owner has had it since 2018, but feels that it is now time for another Land Rover enthusiast to take on the ownership of it. It is categorised as a "Special Vehicles" model by the maker, meaning that it has an air compressor fitted, with an outlet at the rear of the vehicle. It has also been fitted with larger-than-usual tyres and extended wheel arches, and a sump guard, giving it more suitable qualities for a prospective buyer who might be thinking of doing some off-road driving. It has an MOT until March 2026. There are one or two parts of the bodywork that are not in perfect condition, but, weighed against that, as any Land Rover Defender driver will know, this is a vehicle which provides a sense of adventure on every trip. I have driven it to many different parts of the country and enjoyed what amounts to an almost unique experience. It has also got me to some remote and inaccessible locations, and given a feeling of confidence that it would easily get me back to civilisation again. I bought the Land Rover Defender because I wanted a vehicle that could tow my trailer, had a high driving position to reduce the irksome oncoming glare of modern car headlights and could accommodate my camera gear and take it to hard-to-access places. I also wanted a vehicle that could potentially hold its value, knowing that it had gone out of production two years before I purchased it. Its one characteristic that I found most endearing is the sound of its TD5 engine, which I will greatly miss. However, I am on the verge of retirement and feel that it has now served its purpose. You certainly wouldn't want to buy it for its turn of speed, because the Defender is not that type of vehicle, but for someone who doesn't mind a few rattles and squeaks, and that intrepid feeling of "I can go anywhere", this vehicle is second to none. It will, indeed, be a very reluctant sale, but I think the time has come to let it go to a new home.
