1934 BSA X34-0 150cc. A delightful girder forked, hand change, pre-war bike!
BSA (Birmingham Small Arms Company) was one of Britain’s leading motorcycle makers in the early 20th century and by 1934, BSA had developed a reputation for building robust and reliable machines suitable for both everyday transportation and sporting use. The early 1930's were a time when motorcycles were evolving rapidly, with manufacturers experimenting with newer engine technologies and designs to improve performance and efficiency. The introduction of smaller capacity, overhead valve (OHV) designs were one such advancement.
The BSA Model X34-0 was a 149cc, single-cylinder, overhead-valve motorcycle introduced by the BSA in 1933, designed as a lightweight, agile, and sporty machine, this little OHV model was designed for the customer who wanted a lithe and nimble machine, with a more sporty appearance and engine character than a side valve and was first introduced in November '33 and was part of the BSA range for three seasons.
Whereas most bikes of this period had cumbersome rear stands, the X34-0 was fitted with the modern centre stand which was yet to be adopted across the range.
This delightful and very original little bike is a lovely easy starter, going first or second kick, settling down to a nice idle. She is surprisingly sprightly and as a lightweight, has a real nippy feel to it with the OHV engine pulling very well and she sounds super through her recently replaced exhaust system, with a good healthy thump.
It is an older restoration, she still presents very well indeed, with the most lovely gentle patina gained over the years. It comes with a decent history folder with some lovely period letters from BSA in the 1960’s and lots of invoices and receipts for work done during this period, as well as lost of charming correspondence from suppliers, from a time when letter writing was the norm, when looking for spares or work to be carried out.
She appears to have spent much of her life in the Boston, Lincs area and comes with a folder full of period correspondence, period invoices and an original BSA Motorcycle Instruction Book. In addition there are lots of photocopies of period documentation and the V5 is in my name.
Viewing most welcome near Henley-on-Thames: RG9 5NB and I can help with courier/ or delivery -just ask.
A really super example of BSA’s sporty lightweight, which offers a great opportunity to own a pre-war, hand change, girder forked bike for very little money and offering superb value at just £3, 150
