Description
Austin 10/ 4 Open Road Tourer. In 1936 Austin brought out the Cambridge 10/ 4 with uprated engine and more efficient Girling brakes The saloon had a "modern" streamlined body but the tourers retained the old Lichfield style body for a further two years but with the more modern mechanics, ie shell bearing higher powerd engine and Girling brakes. This is one such car.
The car started life in the Oxford area and moved to Wales via Bristol. The owner a Mr Woolley bought the car in 1984 and had it restored at Jones and Bramley Coachworks of Newport and reupholstered in leather by Spencers of Newport. It was painted in the original colours of Slate grey over black in cellulose.
Mr Woolley and his wife took the vehicle to shows all over the country. After he passed away the car was stored and eventually sold by his son to Pioneer Automobiles of Cheiveley and was recommissioned and used as a run about by the owner.
I bought the car a couple of years ago and last year I rebuilt the engine with new pistons, reground crank and new shell bearings etc. I have used the car locally and the engine is run in and running well.
This car is on the button and in nice useable condition, with fairly new tyres and battery. All the electrics work and it has full weather gear.
Ready to use for the summer and can be driven away if desired.
This model does not come up for sale very often particularly the later version.
I am selling it as I have already started work on a new project and haven't got the space for two classics. I will be quite sorry to see it go.
The price is negotiable but I will be selling at a loss. I have tried to price it for the current market . This is a great car for summer outings fun to drive and attracts much admiration. Original transferable registraton number, tax free historic vehicle
