Description

Welcome to my listing for my Ford Escort Cosworth Motorsport 909 (Escort Cosworth Shell) car bought in 1995, built and then registered in 1996 as a 2. 0L Ford Escort RS2000 4x4. This does not say Cosworth on the logbook and is typical of track cars from this period. Some teams registered them on 3 door 1. 4L shells for cost and other teams with more capital registered them as RS2000’s. (like this one)

The Logbook is in my name with 5 previous owners as detailed below.

History of the car -
This car was used and tracked from 1996 to 1998 before being decommissioned as the owner/ driver moved over to Group A. The engine, gearbox, running gear etc was removed and the shell was stored. The shell was then bought by another company and stored for a backup shell before being sold on again. The car was then built by a Ford racing company for one of there customers with a fully rebuilt engine, new ECU, gearbox, running gear etc. The car was tested once on a track by the company that built it before the new owner took delivery of the car. Unfortunately he took on some temporary work abroad that evolved into a permanent position, so the car was sat and maintained for a few years before the previous owner to me purchased the car around 2019. His intentions were to recommissioned it as back in the 90’s he not only worked for the Ford rally team but drove for them too, so had a deep passion for these cars but again it wasn’t time for this car as lockdown hit and the car got put at the back of the warehouse and not touched until I bought it last year.

Spec of the car -
Cosworth engine with 4x4 running gear
Engine has done little to no miles since the rebuild

T3 Turbo
L8 ECU with Stage 3 chip
3 bar map sensor
803 dark green injectors
5 speed MT75 Gearbox
7” rear diff
6. 5” front diff
18” Rondells
Full Group N weld in cage

Since I’ve owned it -
I've spent over £11k restoring/ recomissioning work including the following

The car has just had a full respray back to Diamond white, previously sprayed Frozen white in 2014

New Morrette twin headlights
Full service replacing cambelt, water pump, power steering belt etc
Rear wishbones and rear beam removed and replaced with freshly powder coated ones.
All rear bushes replaced with Powerflex Poly Bushes
New Induction filter
Gearbox, engine and Differential oil changed
Brake and Power Steering fluids were flushed and replaced.
Fuel tank was removed, flushed and refitted
New fuel lines
Brakes stripped down with new rear calliper’s, new hand brake cable, new rear dust shield
Complete underside restoration – treated and undersealed
Rewired the fan and fuel pump switches
Reinstate the ABS system

There is probably a lot more that I have failed to remember but this car is pretty much ready for it’s MOT.

What needs doing -
The power steering pump has just given up. This is not a surprise as these cars are mean’t to be used and don’t like being sat around for years. These can be found online for around £70 second hand or there is a guy selling remanufactured ones for around £170.

The side lights are looking old and could do with replacing.

The interior could be updated but is perfectly functional as is. I guess it would depend on what path the new owner would want to take with this car. ie new seats, new switch panel etc...

Headliner needs re-trimming. Approximately £200 - £300 or if using for purely track events then ditch it.

The clutch is biting a little high so I expect will need replacing at some point in the near future.

This car is perfectly useable and once MOT’d will be great to show off at events this summer. Or could be used as is on the track. Either way I am sure it will be enjoyed.

I am only selling as another opportunity has come my way, plus I have 2 other projects that I’m currently working on with no additional space for it.

To sum up, this car has been pretty much stripped, rebuilt with new or freshly restored parts with an engine that has been rebuilt and used for tuning and testing purposes.

Please feel free to view the full walk around video on my Youtube channel (Cosworth Crazy) along with other videos of how the car was when I first got it.

The price is £45k or very near offer.

I can accept a cheap part exchange if it helps with the sale. (under £20k, car, truck, 4x4)

Any viewings welcome with notice as the car is in storage and i will need to arrange access. (Located in Hampshire).

Delivery can be arranged at buyers expense.

Thanks for looking! This is an affordable way into Escort Cosworth ownership without having to spend £70-£80k for one in this condition.
It would be hard to build one like this for under £45k, thats If you can find an Escort Cosworth 909 shell with ID, plus all the other hard to find parts parts and a rebuilt engine.

All the hard work has been done, a quick and straight forward project to get back on the road asap!
