Record breaking London to Cape Town Land Rover - by Mac Mackenny & Sir Ranulph Fiennes

This 1999 Land Rover Discovery 2 TD5 holds significant historical significance having broken the record driving from London to Cape Town non-stop in 2012.

Under the patronage of Sir Ranulph Fiennes, lead driver Mac Mackenny smashed the existing record and the achievement was much celebrated in the press; with a series of feature articles in Land Rover Monthly magazine.

Specification includes full roll cage; long range fuel tank; power inverter; 2 inch suspension lift; heavy duty suspension; differential guards; remap and larger intercooler; driving lamps; stainless steel performance exhaust.

I bought the vehicle directly from Mac Mackenny in 2023 (having previously owned another of his rally cars) and commissioned a professional refurbishment back to bare chassis frame. The original chassis was fully stripped, repaired and powder coated. All chassis parts were inspected, refurbished and serviced as needed; the body shell was repaired (minor rust in wheel arch etc) and underside fully painted in epoxy Buckingham Blue.

The outer panels and paint are completely original and currently displays ‘Driven to Extremes’ livery; which was also a significant event and follow-on C4 TV adventure show (staring Mac Mackenny). There are marks, gravel-rash, dints etc on the panel work and outer plastic trim just as it was at the end of the London to Cape Town event. The cloth interior is in excellent condition.

A unique record-breaking Land Rover that is also left hand drive and ideal for a serious Land Rover enthusiast in Europe or the USA. Perfect for a museum or could be used for another overland expedition!

I am happy to sell overseas but the buyer must arrange and pay for all storage and export matters upon completion of the sale. Naturally the vehicle will not be released until full cleared funds in pounds sterling have been received.

Professional inspections are invited. If the inspector wishes to test drive the vehicular they MUST bring documented proof of comprehensive insurance for this vehicle and trade plates. MOT to 29th October 2025. Currently on SORN.

Sensible offers will be considered. I might be interested in a p/ ex up to half the value of my vehicle for an excellent (no projects) early Range Rover Classic or MGB/ MGC.
