Description
Background
156 GTA saloon in Gabbiano blue metallic with OEM 17" teledials, manual gearbox, 330mm brake model, first registered 05 Nov 2004.
I have owned the car since Oct 2008, purchased at 43, 000 miles from Guest Alfa Romeo in Knowle (no longer operating). This being my second 156, prior to the GTA I ran a 156 twin spark for 2 1/ 2 years. I have been part of the Alfaowner community since 2006.
The V5 shows 2 former keepers, one of which was Guest Alfa Romeo in Knowle who had the car for a number of months after the original owner.
The car was a daily driver to get me to work for a number of years ('08-'12), and occasionally showed at a number of Scottish Italian Car Days.
It has been declared SORN since 1 May 2017, the last MOT expired Jul 2018, and kept in my garage since.
Serviced annually by independents (mainly Chick McNally at CM Garage East Kilbride - which has now closed) or myself, always using fully synthetic oil and genuine Alfa fluids.
1 near side wing and front bumper was replaced in 2010 when a neighbour scuffed the wing and bumper. I still have the original bumper, included in the sale price. In my ownership the car has only ever been cleaned by hand by myself, I am a keen detailing enthusiast - with a thread on the engine bay of this car still in the top 20 viewed posts on Detailing World (- details above)
All of these spares parts will be included with the car:
- 1 x spare Alfa 156 Gear knob (non GTA) purchased from Alfaowner guys in Romania, looks near identical to GTA
- 2 Fuel rails – refurbished, pickled and yellow zinc passivated
- 1 PAIR of unused and unfitted GENUINE OEM Alfa Romeo GTA front wings, 1 purchased from Laurence at Autolusso Bournemouth, 1 purchased from an Alfaowner forum user, now VERY RARE
- 1 genuine GTA front bumper (from my own car – has a very small bit of damage on the driver side – repairable with plastic welding - then could be resold)
- 1 GENUINE OEM Alfa Romeo full rear suspension kit purchased from Dan at Autolusso Penrith as part of an Alfaowner group purchase – 2 x long transverse arms, 2 x short transverse arms, 2 x trailing arms, 2 x hub bushes. This was purchased in 2019 and is still boxed (hasn't been opened).
- Genuine OEM Alfa Romeo 156 horn set (to replace the horns, as one horn on the car is not working)
- 1 x spare Genuine OEM V6 auxiliary damper harmonic pulley, RRP £388, never fitted but purchased for a future engine rebuild. This is the genuine Alfa original part with the rubber damper.
- 1 x full set of UNOPENED GENUINE OEM Alfa Romeo GTA interior mats.
- Complete set of stainless steel hex screw set for engine bay – purchased as part of an Alfaowner group buy. Contains all fasteners for engine visible from above.
- 1 spare V6 GTA driveshaft (the ball joints would need replacing)Upgrades
Suspension
Top wishbones fitted with Powerflex bushes
Bottom wishbones were replaced with OEM standard and have seen only ~20k miles since fitting.
Zeatec Z8 Coilovers fitted 2015 with new strut top mounts and ARB drop links.
Alfa Romeo Q2 LSD differential fitted by local independent specialist at the time of installing a clutch. This makes an enormous difference and replaced the original open diff which was susceptible to tram lining and notoriously unreliable.
Brakes
Front 330mm Tarox G40 discs
Ferrodo DS2500 pads
Goodridge SS hoses x 4 black
Exhaust
Supersprint 753706 rear box, 76mm twin round tips (RRP now £1, 211)
Other work
Pipercross washable foam filter inside original air box
New Bosch battery fitted Dec 2023 from Tayna, and kept on a trickle charger
Wheels refurbished a couple of hundred miles before being SORN’d and in very good condition
NSR passenger floor replaced, a common issue on 156 models
Original Momo pedals refurbished with new rubber grommets on all three pedals and foot rest
Work now needing done:
- Timing belts and auxiliaries
- Clutch, release bearing and slave cylinder
- Brake fluid service and check all callipers given time off the road
- 1 front tyre to be replaced, the other three are all in reasonable shape with no obvious perishing
- Exhaust middle section and front two flexi sections
- Fuel tank straps need replacing
- Power steering fluid leak returned
- Refit front fog lamp (bracket detached from inside bumper)
- Replace fuel rails and fuel hoses in engine bay
- Both wings have rust now at the points of contact with the plastic arch liners, replacement OEM wings included. Selective small body work repairs: 1 at the leading edge of the roof, 1 small repair on each of the rear arches.
- Engine bay would benefit some powder coating of parts
While there is work needing done, the car is supplied with a lot of parts that are not easy to source, and are not cheap today. The car also has a lot of the desirable upgrades, e. g. coilovers with little mileage, Q2 diff.
The wings on the car have corroded but a good bodyshop could easily save these with selective weld repairs and these could be resold to recover some of the cost of the work. Same with the original front bumper.
The car has no MOT and is unlikely to pass one right now without the work being done, so will need to be transported. It is being sold in the current condition on the basis the new buyer will undertake the work.
Taking all of the above in to account, the inclusion of very rare OEM GTA wings, the OEM rear suspension kit, harmonic pulley, bumper etc I would be looking to sell for £8, 500.
