The Eldredge 8HP Runabout from 1904 is an outstanding example of early automobile history. With its horizontal 2-cylinder engine producing 8 hp and the then innovative left-hand drive, it was far ahead of its time. Barnabas Eldredge, a pioneer in automobile construction, was the first to recognize the practical advantages of left-hand drive in the USA, where cars were driven on the right-hand side of the road. The Eldredge was one of the first American vehicles to be equipped with a steering wheel on the left-hand side, which gave it a practical advantage in many situations - such as overtaking and driving around obstacles.
The vehicle has been owned by the same family since the 1960s and is a real collector's item today. Only five of these rare vehicles still exist worldwide, making the Eldredge a unique specimen. The runabout was extensively restored in the late 1990s and is in good condition. Shortly after the restoration was completed, the owner passed away. Due to an inheritance dispute, the vehicle was put into storage and has not been driven since. Before the Eldredge can be used again, the engine and mechanics must be checked and cleaned.
If desired, the vehicle can be converted into a four-seater with an additional seat. After recommissioning, the Eldredge is an ideal candidate for the prestigious London-Brighton run.
The vehicle can be viewed at any time in Germany and is located in a heated hall near the Dutch border. I am happy to help with the preparations for transportation/ export. The export documents from Canada and a collection of literature on the vehicle are available.
