Description
This stunning and incredibly rare Jaguar XJ40 Majestic is not just a car—it’s a rolling piece of Jaguar’s most exclusive motoring history. With only 270 Majestic models produced worldwide, and just 71 right-hand drive examples officially built for the UK, this long-wheelbase luxury saloon was designed for the elite few. But this particular vehicle is more than rare—it is believed to be the only surviving example in this exact Regency Red with Magnolia leather specification and one of just 39 Majestic models fitted with the upgraded 4. 0L engine. A true unicorn for Jaguar collectors.
The Majestic represents the very pinnacle of the XJ40 platform. These weren’t just standard cars with a few badges. Each one started life on the production line before being sent to Project Aerospace in Coventry, where the body was extended. The car was then returned to Jaguar’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) at Browns Lane for hand-finishing. The result was a uniquely refined and stately saloon—an exclusive gentleman’s express.
Originally registered as a company vehicle for Jaguar Cars Ltd., this Majestic has a traceable history, including a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Certificate verifying its factory specification and build. It later belonged to a respected collector of rare XJ40s before I acquired it in 2019. The car has always been garaged and used sparingly.
Since then, it has received thoughtful maintenance and preventative care. Most notably, it has undergone an extensive underbody treatment using premium German underseal, professionally applied to preserve structural integrity—a known weakness on many XJ40s. This example remains impressively solid throughout.
Mechanically, the car runs beautifully. It recently received a full service including spark plug replacement, and all systems including suspension, cooling, and braking function correctly. There are no warning lights or known faults. It drives smoothly, with that signature Jaguar refinement.
It has a fantastic MOT record, having passed cleanly for nine consecutive years. The current MOT is valid and clean. With just under 89, 880 miles, and fewer than 10, 000 of those added since 2005, the mileage reflects careful and limited use.
The Regency Red paintwork remains glossy and elegant, complemented by upgraded BMW Style Alloy wheels. The chrome, glass, and lights are in excellent shape. Minor blemishes like a scuffed bumper and grille mark are present but in keeping with the car’s age.
Inside, the Magnolia leather and walnut veneer interior is well preserved. The seats were refurbished and front carpets replaced. All instruments and controls work as expected. Rear seat comfort is exceptional with extra legroom and a rear sunblind. The only cosmetic issue is the sagging headliner, a common issue that can be easily addressed.
This car comes complete with:
V5C
Factory tool kit and spare
Full book pack and manuals
History file with MOTs, service stamps, and receipts
The service history includes:
Multiple services by Rossleigh Jaguar through the 1990s
Recent maintenance including brakes, dampers, suspension bushes, fluids, and plugs
Rear silencers, tailpipe trims, and radiator top supports replaced
It is HPI clear, accident-free, and ready for a new owner. It’s not just a car—it’s a piece of Jaguar history. For collectors and enthusiasts seeking something genuinely special, this Majestic is an unmissable opportunity. I bought this Jaguar XJ40 Majestic because it represents everything I love about classic British motoring – elegance, comfort, craftsmanship, and presence. The Majestic model, with its extended wheelbase and enhanced luxury features, was the flagship of its time – reserved for those who appreciated understated class and superior refinement. You don’t just drive this car, you glide in it.
What makes this Majestic stand out is how rare and regal it feels. You immediately notice the smoothness of the ride, the plushness of the interior, and the quiet power under the bonnet. It’s a vehicle that draws nods of appreciation from enthusiasts and passersby alike – a reminder of a time when cars were built with soul and substance.
My favourite thing about this classic is how effortlessly majestic it feels on the road – the way it floats along with poise, soaking up bumps and giving you a sense of calm confidence. The interior still feels like stepping into a gentlemen’s club, with wood trim, comfortable leather seating, and that unmistakable Jaguar charm.
It’s a car that makes you feel proud to own, whether you’re driving it or just admiring it in your driveway. If you’re a collector or someone who appreciates a genuine classic with character and class, this car will speak to you the same way it spoke to me. It’s more than a car – it’s an experience, and one that’s becoming harder to find in such well-kept condition.
