Description
Its time to move my trusty MGB on to new pastures. I've owned and improved it for about a year - which is quite a long time for me and its been a pleasure to own, drive and work on.
I'm a retired technical teacher and my hobby is playing with classic cars - I have one that's a keeper and another (this one) that's a user and fixer-upper.
I bought it last winter (2024) part finished, the PO had done lots of welding and had it repainted both to a good if not show winning standard. He then had to relocate and so sold me the car unfinished. He had spent a small fortune on parts including a new set of stainless wire wheels and tyres, hub adapters, fancy free flow exhaust and manifold, suspension and brakes and lots more.
When I bought it the car wasn't running very well as the carbs were very worn so I bought new SU carbs and new electronic ignition and now it runs great. I fitted reupholstered seats instead of the horrible bucket seats it came with. I also polybushed and rebuilt the front suspension so it now sits at the correct ride height. Fitting lowering blocks to the rear.
I've just completed at 140 mile road run without any issues at around 30 mpg. The MGB drives smoothly with very few rattles, changes gear and overdrive exactly as it should, has 55-60psi oil pressure and uses no oil between oil changes. Its just been fully serviced, greased, oil changed, brakes adjusted etc and its ready to enjoy for the coming summer.
There must be some down sides surely? Well its not a £15k show winner, the panel fit isn't 100% perfect and the paint is very good rather than perfect. Its a car to drive and enjoy rather than polish and win prizes, which is exactly what I wanted. its now time for me to move on to another small project and so this is available for someone else to enjoy this summer.
Anything else?, well the fuel gauge isn't that accurate, the wind deflector on the Webasto is missing and I don't like the radio.
If you are looking for a car to enjoy in all weathers, take out on car runs, reliability and a bit of comfort this might just be the one. It's not a £4k rot box ( in fact there's no body rust at all) and its not a £15k show pony.
As you can see in the pics I have a mid height lift and you would be welcome to view at any mutually convenient time at my home between Chester and WrexhamThe price is always a touch negotiable, its valued at £8. 5k so I've priced it at what it owes so I expect to get close to the asking price. If you're a tooth sucker and think I'm desperate and will knock 1000s off then please save your fuel and my time and look elsewhere. I will not sell remotely and I will only talk about money when you are standing by my side and infront of the car.
