History of the Porsche brand and the legendary 911

Founded in 1931 by Ferdinand Porsche, Porsche has evolved into one of the most iconic sports car brands in the world. The name Porsche is synonymous with speed, precision, and timeless design. The breakthrough came in 1964 with the introduction of the Porsche 911, a revolutionary model that would forever change the automotive world. Designed by Ferdinand "Butzi" Porsche, the grandson of the founder, the 911 quickly captured the hearts of car enthusiasts worldwide. This model became an instant favorite due to its distinctive fastback design and air-cooled boxer engine, a combination that has remained largely unchanged ever since.

The evolution of the 911 has spanned multiple generations, each bringing refinements and improvements while staying true to the original DNA. One of the most desirable variants is undoubtedly the Porsche 911T 2. 2 from 1970. With its unique specifications and limited production numbers, it stands among the most sought-after classic Porsches today.

The 911T 2. 2: A revolutionary leap in the sports car world

In 1969, the Porsche 911 underwent several technical improvements, including a 57mm wheelbase extension, resulting in better handling and increased driving comfort. This enhancement provided a more stable ride without compromising the playful driving characteristics that made the 911 so beloved. Porsche continued to innovate and, in 1970, introduced the 911T 2. 2 a model equipped with a larger 2. 2-liter boxer engine, delivering an additional 15 horsepower. This upgrade resulted in an even sportier driving experience, with a more responsive throttle and improved performance on winding roads.

Of the total production of 81, 032 units, only 2, 573 were built as the 911T 2. 2 variant, making this model particularly special. Its unique character is further emphasized by its rare options and impeccable restoration history.

A Dutch treasure: Originally delivered in 1970

The Porsche 911T 2. 2 described here was newly delivered in the Netherlands on October 30, 1970. This example was finished in the exclusive color "8484-H Blaumetallic," a timeless and elegant shade that perfectly accentuates the 911’s lines. From the factory, this 911T was equipped with the "M470 Comfort Ausstattung" package, also known as the S-package. This included gold 911 lettering on the rear decklid, velour floor mats, aluminum door sills, chrome trim, and the iconic 911S instruments. Additionally, this particular car featured a leather-wrapped steering wheel and green-tinted glass, further emphasizing its luxurious character.

One of the most special options was the "Leichtmetallrädar 5" option: a set of original 14-inch light alloy wheels, including a fifth spare wheel. These wheels were wrapped in Pirelli 185/ 70/ 14 Cinturato CN36 tires, exactly as the car was delivered in 1970.

A storied life: From california to the Netherlands

After its initial delivery in the Netherlands, this Porsche was almost immediately exported to Sonoma, California. There, it enjoyed years of warm and dry weather, until it was eventually put into storage, seemingly past its glory days. The car remained stationary for years until, in 2014, a new owner, Mr. Müller, decided to bring it back to the Netherlands.

What followed was an intensive restoration process. The car was completely disassembled and professionally stripped down, with every bolt and screw carefully inspected and assessed. The engine, a masterpiece in itself, was entrusted to a specialist for a complete overhaul. No detail was overlooked in restoring the car to its original glory.

A masterpiece reborn: The restoration to perfection

Imagine a forgotten Porsche 911T, covered in a thick layer of dust, waiting for someone to recognize its potential once again. The paint is faded, the engine hasn’t run in years, and the upholstery shows the effects of time. But then, in 2020, this 911T found its way into the hands of a true enthusiast—someone dedicated to perfecting classic Porsches as a passionate hobby. With an unparalleled eye for detail and craftsmanship, he embarked on a meticulous restoration.

No expense was spared in bringing this Porsche back to life. Every worn-out component was replaced with genuine Porsche parts, sourced from Alpogros, a renowned Porsche specialist in Haarlem. Old, deteriorated rubber seals made way for fresh, high-quality replacements. The paint was completely redone in its original Blaumetallic shade, using only the finest techniques. The interior was meticulously reupholstered by hand, preserving the original design down to the finest details.

The result? A Porsche 911T that feels exactly as it did on that memorable day in October 1970. From the smooth shifting of the 5-speed gearbox to the characteristic sound of the air-cooled boxer engine everything is just as it should be. The extensive documentation, including the origi
