1989 Mercedes-Benz C124 300CE Auto Coupe

86K miles. Owned for the last 6. 5 years.

Rare 432 Bisonbraun/ Havana Brown over 074 Dattelstoff / Palomino cloth.

Recent clean MOT pass, valid until 7 March 2026.

Extensively restored both mechanically and cosmetically at a cost of over £16k. Insurance valuation of £12500 from MB Club.

Substantial history file, old invoices, parts lists, factory service manuals and an original brochure accompany the car. Two full size keys and the emergency wallet key.

The car was originally ordered through Schoemperlen & Gast MB dealer in Karlsruhe and collected from the factory in Sindelfingen by the original owner who imported the car personally in September 1989.

The first owner kept the car from 1989 until his death in 2011 in the Mumbles in Swansea

The second owner acquired the car in 2012 after going to view the probate sale of the first owner’s house and buying the car. He meant to restore it but only managed to garage the car and break the rear screen.

The third owner was a local Mercedes nut who also never got around to getting on with the car and so the car passed to me.

In my ownership I have had extensive work done to the car. The entire suspension was dropped and refurbished with quality new parts. All bushes, bearings, suspension components etc were renewed along with components in the ignition, braking and fuel systems.

Any and all areas of corrosion were professionally repaired with photographic documentation that will be passed to the next owner. I deleted the aftermarket aerial hole as I did not want future rust issues there so the car is equipped with a Bluetooth capable radio.

All five wheels including the full size spare were refurbished at SEM in Sunderland at a cost of £600 and fitted with matching new Continental 195/ 65/ 15 V rated tyres, which are still in fine condition.

One of the last two new genuine C124 coupe rear screens was fitted to replace the broken one (£700 alone in 2020) and new genuine wings were also fitted. The original 1989 wings are not in bad shape and can go with the car if wanted but it seemed wiser to fit new.

The entire car was resprayed at WPS Paintworks in Sheffield in 2021, again with picture evidence. In total the bodywork and paint spend was over £7000 alone.

No doubt there are cheaper C124 coupes on the market and there are also probably better C124s but I do not imagine you will find a cheaper, better car than mine. The trick of buying old Mercs is to find one that some other idiot has already spent all his money on.

All that being said the car is not perfect and owning one of these requires an ongoing commitment to fixing issues as they arise.

This is a 36 year old car and if current legislation remains in force will become MOT and VED exempt by the end of the decade.

For sale because I simply don’t use it enough - it doesn’t go on the road between November and March for example - but I am not in a hurry to sell and low-ball offers will be politely declined.

The asking price includes a new, unused Varta battery and the very rare genuine Mercedes/ Oris C124-specific roof rack bars which screw into fix-points in the roof trim. They use 20mm T-track fitting so are compatible with modern accessories like roof boxes and cycle carriers. Mine have two keys so are fully lockable and secure.
