Description
This is Monty! A 1962 Morris J4 Bluebird Moto-Plus 4 berth camper van. Monty is an amazing survivor with only 34, 000 miles on the clock in 63 years. It is very original with all its original interior fittings and most of its original paint. Bluebird Motorhomes of Poole , Dorset built Monty in 1962 based on a Morris J4 van. He is a 4 berth (2 adults & 2 children) and has a fitted sink, gas cooker, curtains, Chub locks, rear water tank and gas bottle. There is also a Portaloo in the cupboard and a toilet tent to put it in. Monty was dry stored from 1985 till 2012 when he was purchased by garage proprietor and mechanic Barry who kept him for the next 12 years. Barry increased the mileage from only 20, 000 to 34, 000 in that time covering about 1, 000 miles per year going to shows and on road trips including the London to Brighton run. In that time the van was treated to a full brake system rebuild with new wheel cylinders and shoes, re-chromed bumpers, fitting of electronic ignition, new water pump, radiator, tyres, electric cooling fan and had a brake servo fitted. All of Montys history is covered in a full article in Van & Pick-ip magazine from March 2018 and the sale includes an original copy of the mag. The history file includes old V5's, original brochure, adverts, old tax discs, old pictures of Monty at various shots and lots of old MOT's going back to 1973 proving the mileage. The 1489cc 4 cylinder petrol engine and 4 speed gearbox are in excellent order and propel Monty down the road very nicely and he will cruise along happily at 50mph. He is both MOT and Road Tax exempt and registered as a historic vehicle. Monty has survived 63 years in remarkable condition and remains rust free. The underside is as good as the top. It is a special van and I really don't think you could find a more orignal van in such good condition.
