I’ve owned this Defender for three nearly years and it was in good condition when I bought it, but needed the paintwork freshened up. I brush painted it with the correct MOD olive drab enamel and fixed the convoy light which wasn’t working. It is a 1987 ex RAF Defender 90 with basic military spec interior and canvas roof which is fairly watertight. It has a period correct 2. 5 diesel non turbo engine which I was told by the previous owner had been replaced with a recon unit and runs well and It has 4 matching Michelin tyres which have excellent tread and the steel wheels are in very good condition. The Chassis and body are both sound and are solid apart from a few minor battle scars on the body and It is MOT’d until Nov 25. The only faults are that the temperature guage doesn’t read correctly and rises when the ignition is turned on even before the engine has been run. It Does NOT overheat and the low fuel level light comes on intermittently regardless of how much fuel is in the tank. The Fact that this Defender 90 is ex RAF is what attracted me to it with its simple rugged build which Land Rover intended. The working convoy light and canvas roof add to the authenticity and it is a great thing to drive and every trip feels like an adventure especially with the roof folded up to get the full open air experience.
