Description
After a decade of ownership I am now selling my 914. I imported the car from North Carolina and immediately set to stripping the car for restoration. The usual suspects of the hell hole and suspension mount were taken care of as well as a half floor. The body work was in fantastic condition requiring no rest repair. Small improvements to clean up the lines were made at this time removing the aerial and the 'blisters' from the wings.
Mechanically the car has been sympathetically upgraded, keeping the spirit of the car but improving the driving experience no end. Some may call this a 'fast road' specification. Upgrades include:
- 2. 0L engine with dual 40 carbs
- Bursch 4 into 1 exhaust
- Koni adjustable dampers
- Turbo tie rods
- 19mm brake master cylinder
- 48mm aluminium front brake calipers (911S spec)
- Front wheel spacers
- 'Fast road' suspension geometry
The interior has also been sympathetically updated over the years but kept looking factory. This includes:
- Retrimmed seats with lower seat bolsters for better hip support and enabling taller drivers to not be wrapped around the steering wheel
- Harnesses
- Re-wrapped leather steering wheel
- New carpet set
- New centre console and gauges
- Retrimmed dashboard (new units not available at time of restoration)
- Hidden bluetooth and 3. 5mm stereo amplifier
In this guise I have covered 10s of thousands of miles from camping in the UK, to touring France, Belgium and the Netherlands and all things in between. After a decade since restoration some items now do show some signs of wear but the car is in a very presentable state. It is not a concours car but something you can get in, drive and enjoy. Small updates and upgrades can be made without ever having to take the car off the road.
Please feel free to ask questions of anything I may have missed.
