Description

A true rare barn find. A genuine solid RHD Matching numbered Oval Bug project that was found in a lock up in London. It really is a true honest vehicle with documentation tracing its history. Imported from Florian, Cyprus to Liverpool on the 7th May 1958 by Mr Thomas Halligan ( believed to be Military).

The car really is an example of the days when it was a case of repair and keep it on the road. There are receipts for previous repairs over the years and it seems to have had quite an interesting life.

So down to the car. It really is a solid car that with some TLC and investment could end up a real time warp example. Externally the gutters, wings, inner wings, tailgate and quarter panels are remarkably good due to the quality of steel used in the earlier cars. There are of course age related marks, dents, scratches etc that over the years have added to the cars authenticity and character. The front wings aren’t original as any keen bug fan would notice but they certainly don’t look out of place. The heater channels have had repairs to the underside and are solid, internally seem in great order. and don’t appear to need any repair work. The floor pans are in great condition so nothing to worry about here either. The drivers door has been changed at some point but I can supply a NOS replacement in brand new condition. With the door being changed the internal door card sadly doesn’t match the fantastic original interior but it certainly blends in. Repairs would be needed to the spare wheel well but I’d say a quality patch repair would certainly do the job.

Internally the car is very very good excluding the pre mentioned drivers door card. Seats, headliner and the rest of the interior have survived remarkably. The car even had the original Blaupunkt radio. On the floor are the original ribbed rubber floor mats to back and front and they are in great shape.

As you can see the indicators and rear lights have been added to the car at some point as a so called safety feature back in the day. I do have a set of rear lights that would have been on the vehicle originally and they will be included in the sale. One semaphore is still in place whilst the other side is missing. The cars electrics all seem to be good and lights/ indicators are working on the original 6v system.

The engine is the original matching numbered 1100 and turns freely with little to no end float. We have had it started though it will need a going over and recommissioning.

Paint wise the car looks dull but we had a play with a polisher for 5 minutes and as you will see in one or two of the pictures it came up very very well.

So to round it up the car is a genuine candidate for a sympathetic resto and depending on how far you want to go you could have it up and running in a couple of weekends. Some great bits of original documentation come with the car along with receipts built up over the years. Any question please ring and ask. I dont bite and will help wherever I can.
