Description
1967 Lotus Elan S3 with interesting history and low mileage. Original/ solid chassis and damage free body. The previous owner fully restored the car in 1989, this included body off restoration and engine rebuild. Photographic record of this and various invoices (lots of paperwork) included. The car then had very little use and the last MOT is from August 1990 and it shows a mileage of 6049 miles.
The car was dry stored until I purchased the car in June 2019 showing only 6400 miles. Over the following 3 years I have restored the car and is now a very useable Elan (now showing 6760 miles and counting).
Recent parts invoices for £5000+ covering: Complete suspension and brake system rebuild including: Tony Thompson Koni dampers, new springs, 2 new rear lower wishbones, fully powder coated suspension, full nylon bush set, all new wheel bearings (front and rear), all new suspension joints/ bolts, new driveshaft donuts/ bolts, brake calipers (front/ rear) and Girling Servo re-furbished by Classiccar Automotive (Cheshire), new braided brakes lines, new brake discs/ pads, re-furbished wheels, new Dunlop 155/ 80/ R13 tyres, engine service including rebuilt Weber carburettors, new fuel pump/ fuel lines and a new aluminium fuel tank, new Kelvedon Dynamo, new starter motor/ hoses/ belts and replaced diff seals. I have also rebuilt the vacuum pop-up headlight mechanisms and fitted new headlights (both work). I purchased most of the parts from Sue Miller (- details above)
The car then spent a morning at Northampton Motorsport Rolling Road having the carburettors and ignition timing set, the car starts easily and runs well. I also corner-weighted and set the suspension up on a flat patch.
Mechanically the car is solid/ original as it has had little use and it has always been dry stored. The paintwork has not been touched since its 1990 restoration and it still looks fantastic.
