Description
Golf GTI Mk5, rare three-door with six-speed manual transmission. Metallic Shadow Blue paintwork, in great condition and all original as far as I can tell, and no rust issues. Cloth seats with tartan inserts, 17in wheels with Michelin PS4s.
Mileage is 105, 000 and the engine performs perfectly. In late 2023 it had a new cambelt, water pump, inlet camshaft, high-pressure fuel pump plus follower, and sealing rings for the variable valve-timing system. The interior was refreshed with a new headlining, a restored driver's seat bolster and some new switches to replace those whose rubberised coating had worn away. Other items recently replaced are the driveshafts, the flexible brake hoses and the handbrake cable guide tubes.
There's a comprehensive service history with a pile of invoices, much of it from VW dealers, plus the original owner's handbook and service pack. The second owner worked for a VW dealer, bought the Golf in 2020 as a trade-in and maintained it meticulously. He sold it in early 2022 to the third owner, a design engineer at JCB from whom I bought it in September 2023. I'd long wanted a Mk5 GTI after going on the model's original press launch in late 2004, but having now all but retired I'm just not using this one enough. It needs to go to someone who will enjoy it regularly.
There are just two deviations from factory spec: silicone hoses for the turbo plumbing, installed by the second owner's VW dealership, and – fitted for the third owner – a Milltek rear silencer whose note is smooth and deep but still quiet. MOT runs to September 2025.
This surefire future classic is an unusually nice example with a great history.
