Description
Very nice 1999 XK8 4. 0 FH Coupe.
First things first. After many enquiries and silly offers, this car is priced according to its condition. Yes, you can go out and buy an XK8 of this era for between 1 & 3 grand, there are many on the usual auction sites and in auction houses. They will need extensive body and probably structural work and plenty of mechanical improvements. If you like a project then fine, go for the cheapies but they WILL cost a lot more in the long run. This Jaguar is NOT a rough example and certainly not a project. It has been assessed by a local XK8 specialist as mint to very good. This is mainly due to it having spent a lot of its life in dry, warm southern Europe. It was never exported but used as the owners car at a second home down there. So please, stop with the same old story of 'I can buy one of these for..........'!
Ok, that's cleared the air so please read on.
91000 miles.
MOT July '25.
Colour: Gold.
2 sets of keys, 2 key fobs and valet key.
I acquired vehicle in 2018 from a fellow enthusiast.
Stamped history upto 90, 000 miles. Extensive history file.
Car has only covered around 10, 000 miles since 2008. Durng this time it has been a mixture of dry storage or occasional weekend summer use only.
During my ownership (specifically over past 2-3 years) it has had:
New headlining.
New tyres.
Professionally rebuilt auto transmission by ZF specialist fitted.
Complete new stage 1 larger bore stainless steel exhaust (rear silencers deleted).
New catalytic converters and oxygen sensors.
Battery.
Paintwork professionally ceramic coated usng GTechniq product.
A couple of scratches, front bumper paint chips, windshield & rear screen surrounds blistering have been addressed and repaired professionally.
Both footwell panels (in the usual corrosion points) have been professionally repaired using repair panels.
Recent new rear brake pads and front suspension poly bushes along with new front anti roll bar link rods.
New headlamp washer pump and upgraded (legal) headlamp bulbs.
Recent full service and correct specification spark plugs renewed.
Previous owner did the timing chain mods and fitted new coil packs throughout.
If you have checked the MOT history you will note that it recently failed on emmissions. This was diagnosed as the LH bank post cat oxygen sensor. Renewed sensor and all is now fine.
Interior is really nice, clean condition having been detailed professionally just over a year ago.
All receipts and documentation for the above work is present and included in the history file.
I have loved owning this Jag but it is surplus to requirements and needs driving; I just don't have the time.
There are a couple of points that need addressing by the new owner:
The air con could do with a service. It worked fine last year but noticed after its winter '24/'25 layup it no longer blows cold. Have not had tme to diagnose the issue
The storage cubby hole under the centre armrest has its liner missing.
The lock button on the spare key fob is loose (it is there but loose).
Apart from that it is a real head turner, straight, rot free, goes and stops well, surprisingly economical, everything works including the 6 disc autochanger and is a joy to own and drive.
Any questions, viewing or inspectons welcome. The service and ownership history is detailed above so here are a few personal observations and feelings about my Jguar XK8.
I have always loved the XK8 since it was first introduced. The lines, its stance, the hints of E-Type here and there and that fabulous 4. 0L V8 powerplant.
This example is now beautifully presented looking great in its ceramic coated gold paintwork. The interior is a nice place to be and from what I can tell has always been smoke free. The auto transmission changes gears smoothly and the roadholding inspires confidence to progress with ease in this comfortable GT car.
Myself and the previous owner (who is a friend of mine) have carried on with the meticulous maintenance regime exhibited by the previous owners with its service history all present and correct.
Since upgrading the exhaust system from the cats back to a larger bore and deleting the rear silencers this big cat now has a gentle roar that befits its styling and pedigree. That exhaust note is truly addictive!
There are cheaper XKs out there but I'll stick my neck out and say that all will need lots of money and time spending to get anywhere near the standard of this example. It really is a true gem.
