Bought new by my brother-in-law, the car has been meticulously maintained and sparingly but regularly used continuously through its life and always garaged. Having always admired the car, I acquired it from him in 2021. There are 22 (all main dealer) invoices on file for the regular servicing, the most recent being in April last year with a fully stamped service book as well. The car has an MOT certificate valid until 6 April 2026 with one advisory for a minor oil leak.
Last year I had the timing belt and pulleys replaced plus the water pump, auxiliary belt and coil pack. This work was carried out elsewhere as the main agent was unable to source the parts. The coil pack and subsequently the lambda sensor were replaced in an attempt to cure an occasional erratic running for a short period after starting. Neither was the cause, the problem being more recently tracked down to a faulty ambient temperature sensor which has been replaced and cured the problem.
Also last year I had some paint rectification work carried out to remove some minor bumper scrapes plus a full detailing and refurbishment of the alloys. Whilst not perfect, it has brought the appearance up to a high standard. It is worth emphasising that there was and is no rust on the bodywork. The spare alloy has never been on the vehicle in its 27 years.
The interior fan sometimes is noisy and is stopped by changing the speed. I also suspect the aircon is not working properly.

Penned by the same person who designed the Ferrari 456, the 406 has similar styling cues and has been termed as the poor man's Ferrari! This top spec V6 version has brisk performance, is relatively rare and, to my eyes at least, a much more stylish car than many of its era.
