Description
This is a Series 3, 1960 Morris Minor factory built Tourer. It has a 948cc 4-cyinder A-Series engine with a four speed gearbox. Between 2020 and 2022 the owner of the car at that time carried an extensive restoration and a box of receipts/ invoices detailing the work carried out. The original buff log book will come with the car. This model is one of the last to feature semaphore signals which work, and have been fitted with self-flashing semaphore bulbs.
It has had a full re-spray in its original Yukon Grey. It still has its original red vinyl interior with matching new red carpets and door cards. The seats have their original red vinyl finish and are in excellent condition.
In addition there is a new fabric roof, which contrasts nicely with the Yukon Grey bodywork. The roof functions well. Most of the exterior trim, badges and brightwork have either been refreshed or replaced with new old stock items. The car has its original steel wheels that have been painted white and feature chromed hub-caps which are in good condition as is all the chrome work.
All five tyres are in near new condition. The underside of the vehicle is in exceptional condition, with the floors, chassis rails, inner wings, jacking points, cross member and sills all having been completely refurbished during the restoration. There is light blistering on one of the rear wings.
As part of the restoration process the A-series engine has been stripped, checked and rebuilt, with fixes and upgrades carried out as needed. The cylinder head has been modified to allow the car to run on modern fuels without the need for any additives.
While the gearbox and engine are the original items, a considerable number of new parts were added. The fuel tank and lines were replaced as were the wiring loom, switches, dynamo, starter, clutch, fuse box, battery as were and much more. The box of receipts that comes with the car indicates a total of £14, 000 spent on parts. There is one invoice for £5, 400 for the welding.
As well as the overhaul of the car's engine, the suspension and other drivetrain elements were refurbished. New bushes have been fitted throughout, as well as new track rods, leaf springs, tie rods, a complete new braking system, new door seals and new roof seals.
In addition, since I bought the car a number of upgrades and improvements have been carried out by the Morris Minor Millennium Co. Manchester who fitted safety belts to the front seats, additional indicator lights front and rear and linked in with the semaphores and a replacement timing chain cover with a lipseal. Prior to sale it will be taken to MM Millennium for inspection and an MOT.
The car is available for any inspection and it is in Warrington, Cheshire, 10 minutes from the M6 Junction 21. The reason I bought this Morris Minor Tourer was for purely practical reasons. After driving and maintaining a 1972 Mercedes Benz and a 1948 Triumph Roadster for 20 years the combination of my age, my wife's mobility and a cold garage I decided to get a classic that we could both enjoy hence the Morris.
Unfortunately, I made a mistake. It was only later I realised that the boot wasn't quite big enough to take my wife's wheelchair. So, after a little more than 12 months enjoyable classic car motoring I am having to sell.
It's said that if you want to make friends get a dog or a classic car.
Well this car will make you loads of 'friends' usually people who you've never met before but once they see it they will be drawn to the car saying things like "lovely" "cute" "my auntie had one of these" and some will get emotional because of the happier times they remember.
So, if you are looking for a ready made classic (that someone can maintain for you) in time for the warmer weather this could be what you are looking for.
