This 1976 911S Coupe presents very nicely with close to perfect paintwork, finished in stunning original Light Yellow with complimenting Tan interior. This example sits on period ‘Cookie Cutter’ alloy wheels. Being a US spec car, this example still retains its period dealer option of chrome trim package including window surrounds, wheel arch trims and sill covers. Pop-out rear opening windows were also optioned.
In the interest of cosmetic enhancement, the US spec huge rear bumper over-riders and ugly upright headlights have been replaced with euro spec items adding some finishing touches to what is a stunning classic 911. Inside, the car retains all its original character and features including wind-up windows and OEM 3 spoke leather steering wheel. The car retains it original tan carpets and trim. The front seats have been re-trimmed at some stage and to a very high standard.
The 2. 7 engine starts on the button and quickly settles to a smooth air-cooled tick-over. The clutch operation is smooth and progressive and the refreshed 915 gearbox selections are reassuringly positive and once mastered, the 5 speed gearbox becomes a joy to operate giving superb levels of driver involvement.
On the road, this 911S feels light and responsive, the engine pulls smoothly in each gear and swift progress can be made easily keeping pace with modern day traffic. These early 911’s did without power steer-ing, however given the cars lightness and relatively narrow tyres (by to-days standards) low speed manoeuvres are not difficult.
Once on the move, the steering is everything you want in a classic 911, light and responsive and gives the driver constant feel as to what the road surface is doing. The brakes are firm but progressive giving driver confidence and slowing the car with ease. Suspension is much more compliant than in latter air-cooled models which along with the deeper sidewall tyres makes for an excellent balance of performance and com-fort on the UK’s poor road surfaces. This 1976 This US spec 911S was first registered in 1976, ordered in non-sunroof coupe guise in Light Yellow paintwork (code 117) and with Tan interior. Externally the car was supplied on 15 inch ‘cookie cutter’ alloy wheels and chrome trim options were added for window surrounds, wheel arches and sill covers. The car was imported to the UK from its US home in Minnesota in late 2017. On arrival in the UK, the car underwent Paintwork, Engine & Gear-box with specialists and was registered for use in the UK with the DVLA.
The 911s was then the subject of an in depth 230 point report by an in-dependent Porsche specialist which concluded the car was very solid with no apparent signs of serious past accident damage or repairs, with little more than a few minor niggles to note. Various small jobs and mainte-nance items were carried out over the next 3 years or so. In September 2022 the 911s was advertised for sale with a Cheshire based specialist, all be it with potential engine issue becoming apparent.
The car was purchased by its current owner and was subject to major engine rebuild work in October 2022 by Cheshire based Porsche special-ists Ninemeister. Work was completed in May 2023 and the car has since been enjoyed sparingly for sunny weekend driving and club days our over the past couple of years.
The detailed maintenance file documents all the work carried out since import plus a detailed photographic reference of the 911 in the US prior to sale and export.
