Description
Autofolio Private Sales is proud to present this exemplary example of an ultra-rare and highly sought after Alpina B7 Turbo / 3.
The E28 5-Series has fast become a classic in its own right and it’s easy to see why. The first BMW to officially wear the ‘M5’ badge powered by the M88/ 3 engine and with a quoted output of 288bhp made it one of the fastest street-legal cars of its generation whilst being able to seat 4 comfortably at the same time.
By the early 80s Alpina had several years under their belts experimenting with taking BMW’s products to class-leading performance status. Having invested heavily in turbo-charging R&D leading several bragging rights again for producing the world's fastest production saloon with the B7 Turbo series.
The power came from BMW’s 3. 4-litre M30 lump which was modified to include a single triple-K turbocharger, lightweight Mahle pistons, performance cylinder heads as well as a re-programmed engine management system. It is believed c. 234 B7 Turbos were produced between 1984 - 1987 with most of the cars being supplied to Europe and Japan as a result of the model not being offered to the North American market.
Whilst most examples were fitted with an automatic gearbox, this Japanese-supplied example is believed to be just 1 of 4 examples fitted with a 5-speed gearbox. Furthermore the car boasts its original paint and a known history from new with a no-expense spared, comprehensive history file including the original Alpina build sheet. Included within the file are details of Japanese Service records as well as U. S. service records outlining all work undertaken on the car in recent years as well as a clean history report.
