History
The first of the luxury V8 Fords to be manufactured at Dagenham in 1936, the Model 62 was designed to replace the 1935 big American Ford previously imported for the European market.
The Ford 62 body was designed by Matford in France and marnufactured by Chausson in Paris. You can see some of the curvaceous styling influences that also appe: Citroen Traction Avant. The grill is influenced by the 1937 American Ford design as is the slantback. The rear also features a spare wheel with cover.
In France the same car was produced by Matford and was badged the Alsace.
Ford based the Model 62 on the USA sedan shortening the wheelbase by 4 inches, making it better suited to the European market. Suspension and frame were of the time with transverse springs front and back and big drums all round. This frame was later used for the post war Ford Pilot.
The 1936 car would have been fitted with the small V8 60hp flathead and 3 speed box. No engine is supplied with this car.
12 years ago and began a nut and bolt restoration. I have pictures of every step. The body was media blasted and primed and the frame media blasted and painted with 2 pack POR 15. The rear crossmember was straightened by 3 inches to give a lower ride height. (An original crossmember is available at no extra charge).
The car is supplied with all the original parts for interior and exterior EXCLUDING headlights, engine, transmission, gauges and radiator.
New or replacement parts included are rear axle oil seals, Ford spoked wheels, windscreen frame and windscreen glass.
