1986 Ford Capri Mark 3

1986 Ford Capri 1. 6 Laser.

Bought by myself in 2022 and used regularly in the summer months. I purchased it from the original owner who bought it new from TC Harrisons. He claimed it was the last Capri to be sold by that particular branch. A genuine one previous owner car, me being the second.

I serviced the car last year, new plugs/ points/ condenser/ leads etc. New oil/ filter and rebuilt the carburettor, and replaced thermostat as a matter of course. Needless to say it runs faultlessly and pulls very well through the gears. It starts instantly, no excessive smoke or untoward noises. Gets down the road nicely.

Just fitted a new battery as the other was slowing down. This has 2 year warranty.

The interior is presentable/ tidy given the age of the car. The dash is typically cracked and the drivers seat bolster has worn through. But other than that it is certainly liveable. It has charm for sure, music playing, windows down on a hot summers day and are transported straight back to the 80’s!

The paintwork is the cars main downfall. It had rear arches fitted circa 10 years ago and they are bubbling where jointed, the front scuttle has a 50p size hole in the corner under windscreen and the front o/ s wing corner is crusty. Not the end of the world for anyone handy with bodywork but certainly worth mentioning. The sunroof area is remarkably good, as is pretty much the rest of the car. It is still presentable and certainly useable as is.

Brakes pull up evenly and hand brake is good. It steers well and suspension is as it should be.

Original handbook and service history to come with car, the majority being TC Harrison. Original main dealer.

All in all a nice original Capri Laser that is mechanically and structurally sound requiring light restoration to make nice again. Ideal for the whole range of Capri enthusiasts, whether it be a young driver requiring small CC for insurance purposes or the nostalgic buyer looking to relive the happy times. Whichever it be, this car fits the bill. Expect work, but not a basket case. A proper, genuine project.

As of next year this car will be 40 years old and will qualify for free Tax/ MOT and be Ulez compliant.
