Description
Very rare early Morris Marina 1. 8 Super saloon in "Limeflower" for sale - a wonderful 53-year-old survivor. Garaged, pampered and barely used by me for nearly 10 years; restored at enormous cost 18 years ago by the previous owner who adored this car - and featured in the world's most prestigious classic car magazine last year - Classic & Sports Car magazine. This in itself was quite an achievement, seeing this publication usually focuses on far more valuable classics. The article can be found online if you missed the publication of the magazine - please Google "Classic and Sports Car Morris Marina Vauxhall Cavalier Hillman Hunter".
The car is original in every way; no stereo has ever been fitted and no modern wheels adorn this car - the only upgrade to have been made is electronic ignition, for unsurpassed reliability and smooth running (better than new, in fact).
This is a striking example in Limeflower Green, with complimentary Limeflower interior - the only one known to exist in this ultra-'70s colour combination. This Marina is in good solid condition with no rot anywhere, even after all the years since restoration. Thanks to the restoration, bodywork-wise it looks like an 18-year-old Marina rather than a 53-year-old one and thankfully doesn't look over-restored, with lots of patina, while running and driving just how an early Marina saloon should.
There is lots of torque from the gutsy and indestructible 1. 8 B-Series engine, which never feels underpowered and always fires into life on the first turn of the key. This was the top-of-the-range engine for a Marina and it sounds lovely through its original exhaust, with a muted raspy burble - a real blast from the past!
Tax & MoT-exemption, ULEZ-exemption and basic, trouble-free motoring are amongst the many perks in store for the fortunate new owner; please don't apply to buy if you are a perfectionist or don't like getting lots of attention, as this car draws a crowd wherever you go, chiefly due to the incredible '70s-tastic colour combo. Driving this car is quite an experience and a real privilege. Such a basic, simple motoring experience will always put a smile on your face and it takes you back to a simpler time.
I absolutely love this car and don't particularly want to sell, but I now need to make space by selling a few cars which I don't use very often. I have lots of service history, including all receipts from this car's renovation all those years ago.
