Overview:
I’ve known this lovely midnight blue MX-5 for the last 13 years and it’s my 3rd MX-5 NB. The previous owner is a good friend of mine and looked after the car fastidiously. I actually went with him to Sporting Cars of Ditchling when he was looking for a good NB and this car out stood out from the others and a deal was made. When the time came for him to part with it, I was offered first refusal and didn’t hesitate to add it to my collection! It’s now a 5th car for me and I really haven’t had the chance to use it as much as it deserves, plus my garage is now full so I’ve decided to offer it for sale.
I’ve owned the car for the last year and a half and it’s had 5 former keepers, with the previous owner enjoying it for 11 years. The car has been stored in a dry garage until very recently when I’ve had to park it on my drive owing to lack of space.
W882 SGH:
This is a base spec ‘S’ model, so a more raw MX-5 experience. It does have a working aftermarket radio and the original removable aerial. Original alloy wheels with Dunlop Sport tyres (not done many miles but wouldn’t describe them as new). A lot of money has been spent on this car over the years to keep it one of the better examples out there – more on this at the end of the listing.
Overall, the car is in good condition considering it’s almost 25 years old. Slight graze on the passenger wing mirror but the important areas that tend to rust on MX-5 NB’s have been addressed and are solid. The car’s been rust treated and the engine bay is extremely tidy. I believe the car had a new vinyl soft top prior to my friend buying it some 13 years ago, although can’t see an invoice to confirm when. A new Mazda OEM Panasonic battery was also fitted by the previous owner some time ago and has been kept on a CTEK MXS trickle charger.
The car starts, drives and stops faultlessly and once everything’s up to temperature will rev freely without hesitation. It’s a really nice drive in my opinion and definitely the freshest NB I’ve owned.
As mentioned, previously owned by an engineer friend of mine who carried out most of the general servicing. Other work mainly by specialists including ‘The MX5 Restorer’ (see paperwork).
