1961 Austin Mini 850

We are thrilled to present this stunning 1961 Austin Mini.

This remarkable Mini was first registered to its original owner, Miss Grace Tosbell of Colchester, on September 7th, 1961, by Maldon Road Garage in Colchester. Miss Tosbell owned the car until December 28th, 1978, when it passed into the care of Mr. Bernard Pepper, who kept the car until June 15th, 2022. In total, this Mini has had just three owners over 64 years. We are fortunate to have all the original V5 documents detailing this history, along with the original service book, which is complete with stamps and early servicing details. Additionally, it comes with the original owner’s manual, advertising brochures, a parts list, and a brochure—remarkable items that have survived through the years.

The Mini is beautifully finished in a charming shade of duck egg blue, complemented by blue trim with white piping, all in exceptional condition. Even under the bonnet and in the boot area, the car shows stunning preservation. A collection of paperwork illustrates the work completed over the years, including a significant restoration by R. M. Restorations in Colchester in 1997, which cost £10, 590 at the time—considerable money, especially in 1997. There are also pictures of the restoration, further highlighting the level of care taken with this Mini.

Completely restored in 1997 by R. M. Restorations, this 1961 Austin Mini 850 has been carefully maintained and cherished for most of its life. The car features a lovely light blue exterior with a contrasting dark blue interior, making it a beautiful example of a Mk1, with only a few subtle modifications from its original specification—such as the wheel arches and the rare period-correct 100+ wheels.

Powered by a 850cc 4-cylinder engine and paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox (with a floor-mounted starter), this compact classic is ready to deliver an enjoyable driving experience.
