Description
A classic Vintage Special built in the style of the iconic Shelsley Specials of the 1920s and 30s like Dorcas 1 (see black and white photo), Grasshopper and Granny. The Cricket features a solid 1926 Vintage Austin 7 chassis with later 1930 vintage 3 piece, more desirable, stronger rear axle, raked steering and three speed gearbox. The box is mated to a delightful horizontally opposed, twin cylinder Coventry Victor engine which previously powered a vintage speedboat. Barn stored for the past two decades it will need work to ready it for the hills of the VSCC hillclimb circuit but will be a worthy and fun addition to the burgeoning ranks of interesting vintage specials. Sold with a collection of spares including a part converted Austin 7 Magneto engine with supercharger drive casing of the same vintage as the chassis. The VSCC has encouraged special builders of a more impercunious nature since the 1930s and today the clubs hillclimbs, sprints and circuit races for these fun machines are as popular as ever with a burgeoning young crowd leading the way. Join their ranks to enjoy the vintage scene and camaraderie.
