Norton International 1948 500cc Garden Gate
For sale is my 500cc 1948 garden gate international, after a lengthy search this one came up for sale at Verrells, I wouldn’t normally buy from a dealer but an International Norton is a big purchase and although it wasn’t cheap it was top quality, beautifully prepared and presented, as dealers Verrells are I think as good as it gets and I wasn’t disappointed, the bike was absolutely bang on so I bought it, this was in 2016, in August that year I took it to the classic TT in the isle of man, riding an OHC Norton around the famous mountain circuit was a special moment
This particular bike left the factory as a 350 but at some point has been upgraded to a 500 by means of an all aluminium engine from a 1937 bike, it was exported to Austria, fully restored and overhauled, then spent the next 20 years in the Mountain top museum then I bought it as I say via Verralls.
The condition, as you can see from the pictures is beautiful, it isn’t concourse, as time and gentle use have given the bike a nice, slightly mellow patina, it is an easy starter and rides perfectly, it is ready to ride home and wants for nothing. It comes with 3 silencers, the standard one (a bit too quiet) and open megaphone, this is great, it sounds like a manx but can be a bit too loud and of course the currently fitted Brooklands can which is a nice compromise, I’ve included pictures of each silencer fitted, everything is as it should be with this bike, it’s a good genuine usable International, it’s been a trouble free joy to own and ride, utterly reliable, and as I say, this is a ride home bike if you choose
I don’t really need to sell this bike, I don’t need the money but space is getting a little tight and this is the bike I tend to use the least, make an offer by all meants but I’m not interested in any silly offers or part exchanges, I’m happy to work with a courier if that is what you prefer, the bike will only be released on cleared funds, bank transfer being ideal, viewing is encouraged
The Norton International is a special bike, I’ve enjoyed owning this one for the last 9 years but maybe it’s time to move on….. genuine enquiries only please, timewasters will not be tolerated, thanks for looking
