1984 Lotus Excel

Hi, I have decided to part with my 1984 Lotus Excel 2. 2 after deciding converting the Garage to a home office takes priority and with 2 other cars there is no room on the drive. Within my ownership since June 2022 I have covered some 2500 miles in the car without any major issues. I have however been “on the ball” with rectifying any minor issues and future proofing wherever possible which you would expect on a 40 year old car. Examples of this are as follows;
-New triple core radiator.
-New electronic ignition, plugs, leads and coil.
-Professional alignment carried out.
-New hose set purchased and partially changed alongside thermostat and housing.
-Small section of brake line replaced as started showing signs of deterioration.
-Cam belt kit (09/ 12/ 2022)
Having spent an estimated £4000 in my near 3 year ownership (with proof) I have allowed the car to be as mechanically sound as possible. Being first registered December 1984 the car is now MOT exempt with the last MOT being completed Feb 2024 with the only defect being the headlight bulbs and the 2023 MOT passed with no advisories. The car starts well (hot or cold) and runs smoothly… consistently while making a lovely noise due to the stainless straight through exhaust and trumpet air filtration setup. Being completely transparent, there is an engine oil leak which I suspect to be from the slanted rocker covers. The car drives and brakes straight with a surefooted transmission. This will also be TAX EXEMPT from 1st April which makes very cheap motoring taking into account classic car insurance being so affordable also (Less than £90 a year for me with breakdown cover)

The Bodywork is presentable yet not perfect with a bit of paint flaking on the front passenger side quarter and lacquer peel slowly moving from the top down. In all honesty being white, the lacquer peel is not overly noticeable after a good polish unless you are very close. Alloy wheels are nice and bright with no kerb damage. A few areas of touch up here and there would be of benefit but by no means essential.

Interior is typical of a 40 year old car in “as original” condition. There are a couple of areas here and there that could be improved. All electrics work including electric windows, electric mirrors, heated rear screen, interior lights and wiper / washer. The car is also fitted with a period looking Blaupunkt Bluetooth head unit. The only thing I can think off that does not work is the interior cabin fan blower, the car does however blow hot air once on the move which has always been enough for me to not make the repair a priority. The car comes with the new unit for replacement alongside a boot full of other spares. All locks work and 2 sets of keys, owners handbook and lots of paperwork.

This is quite a rare car now with only circa. 2000 Excels leaving the production line. By no means is this example concourse or showroom condition but it is a car that will put a smile on yours and others faces every time you drive it and for me showing signs of being 40 years old adds to its character. Finally, you can look to buy this car with confidence as I did from the previous owner. I will be completely honest and straightforward. If required I will put another MOT on the car prior to release for peace of mind.
