Description

After ten happy years together, the time has come for me to part company with my cherished 1983 Alfa Spider Series 3.
Since the day I bought her, this beautiful bright red 2-litre Spider has been garaged, well maintained and used only when the road and weather conditions are conducive.
In the decade that I have owned her, she has covered some 13, 000 kms and now has 120, 000 kms (75, 000 miles) on the clock.
She has been registered as an historic vehicle, so road tax is zero and the car is MoT-exempt.
However, she has just been issued with a full MoT with no advisories and drives beautifully.
The car comes with an extensive history file, which records that it was first registered in South Africa in 1983 and brought to England in 1988. It is reported to have had a ground-up restoration and been converted to right-hand drive by Alfa specialists Bell & Colvill.
I have numerous receipts for work and parts going back to 1988.
In the early years of my ownership, the car was fitted with a new radiator and was undersealed and Waxoyled.
Major engine work was also carried out, including new pistons and cylinder liners, at a cost of around £2, 000.
A new mohair hood was fitted a couple of years ago.
In 2024, the car went to leading Alfa specialists Peter Smart Classic Alfas Ltd for a major service and other repair work. As well as installing an electric fuel pump, the car was fitted with new Koni Classic front and rear shock absorbers, new rear springs and new rear trailing arms and bushes. The total cost was £2, 750.
A new battery was fitted in late 2024.
In March 2025 Peter Smart also carried out more than £1, 000 worth of additional work, including fitting of a new starter motor, as well as brake work and parts to ensure a clean bill of health at MoT.
There are one or two small areas of surface corrosion but the underneath of the vehicle is very sound.
My only reason to part with her is that age is catching up with me and I find it increasingly challenging to use her as often as she should be used.
