Description
This is an excellent example of the classic Thunderbird 900, built in Hinckley UK when Triumphs were over-engineered to ensure they built a reputation for robustness and reliability. I spent a long time looking for one that had the right specification, being the second series with 6-speed transmission, chrome engine casings and low-line seat - I particularly wanted the original seat. This bike also has the factory options of: centre-stand, chrome chainguard, chrome radiator surround and front fork guards.
This low mileage, low owner example was going to be a keeper for me so I fitted new Avon tyres (reputedly the best choice for these bikes) due to the age of the original tyres, complete with new tubes and rim-tapes, as well as new brake lines, again due to age, replaced with OEM. Within the last 12 months it's had a full service with oil, oil filter, sparkplugs, K&N air filter, new petrol tap and new battery. Although the MOT runs out in April, it will have a new MOT. Please check the photos for condition and in particular check out the top yoke which usually corrodes or the lacquer goes on these but is excellent on this one. These are fantastic to ride, with great handling, surprisingly good brakes, plenty of power and that great triple sound track. They're also excellent for taking a pillion due to the comfortable, flattish seat, low seat height and upright riding position. The reason for selling is that I've just been able to acquire a 2002 one with only 400 miles from new which was too good an opportunity to pass up.
