Description
This machine is a 1959 Matchless Model G12 Deluxe. I restored the bike after its purchase in 2010. The bike was bought new by a Yorkshireman, who lived and worked in Northern Ireland. He was the sole owner of the Matchless until he passed away leaving the bike to a nephew. When I bought the bike it had stood in a shed for 12 years.
It had been neither ridden or taxed.
The engine and frame numbers are matching, and it carries its original registration of 4 numbers 2 letters.
I have a certificate of authenticity from the Owners Club, confirming dispatch to Belfast on 5th May 1959.
I have a V5c and the bike has been continually taxed in my name since I bought it. The restoration has resulted in powder coating of the frame and other black cycle parts, to a high standard by Jorvik Engineering of York. The chrome work is first class and was carried out by Prestige Plating Mexbrough. All tinware has been professionally painted in 2 pack.
Stainless fasteners have been used where appropriate.
The magneto and dynamo have been overhauled and the tyres, battery and chains renewed. Rewired with new solid state regulator.
Carburettor was refurbished by Martyn Bratby.
Engine work consists of a rebore to +0. 020", crankshaft reground and new bearings fitted, new valves and guides. In excess of £3, 000 spent on restoration.
