Description

This is almost certainly the lowest mileage original RHD UK supplied Datsun 240Z (HS30) left in the country and is the ultimate collector example. Amazingly it had just one owner from new until I purchased it in 2019 and has unrivalled provenance and history from new.

This is an original car and has never needed to be or been restored, pretty much unique for a UK supplied 240Z. It was recently painted for the first time since new (only due to old coachlines and protective underseal painted on the lower areas that could not be removed with chemicals). The ground metal was found to be in almost perfect condition underneath aside from a couple of very minor repairs required to the rear arch lips and most of the original spot welds are still visible in this area to evidence the minimal work carried out.

This car is from my own small personal collection of Japanese cars and is reluctantly for sale to fund the restoration of another 240Z. Garaged from new, the unbelievable low mileage of just 24, 000 is fully documented with much service history available together with many old MOT's and tax discs. I have owned many S30Zs over the last 20 years or so and this is the closest car to a factory original spec. new 1970's car I have ever driven.

Cars like this have a story to tell and this one is a good one. Don, the original owner was a mobile hairdresser in London when he bought this 240Z new in 1971 and he part-exchanged his Aston Martin DB6 for it such was the excitement around the new Z model. He used it for the first few years as his comb and scissors carrier around town and then parked it up in one of his garages in North London as he couldn't bring himself to sell it. He then used it only occasionally to attend Z Club meetings in the South East in the 1980/ 90's and occasional leisure trips. Over the last few years of Don's ownership it did very little mileage between MOT's as he could no longer drive it far.

Mechanically the car runs the original stock standard L24 6 cylinder engine with twin Hitachi/ SU carbs which gave 150bhp and a 0-60 time of 8 secs which was very quick for a regular production car back in 1970. The engine feels and sounds super sweet, evidence of the incredibly low mileage. Ride height and suspension is as it left the factory and it runs on period 14 inch Wolfrace alloys that were dealer supplied on request when new. The original steels are supplied with the car. Tyres are brand new all round.

The interior is untouched and in fantastic original unrestored condition. A Stainless Steel upgraded exhaust has been fitted by marque specialists Fourways Engineering who looked after the car in recent years.

It has been used sparingly in my ownership but just enough to keep it in good running order. The most recent journey was a return trip of 300 miles from Devon to Goodwood on which it performed faultlessly.

This car should appeal to the discerning collector and really is a one off opportunity. You simply won't find another 54 year old UK supplied Datsun 240Z with this level of originality, history and provenance.
