Honda Prelude Motegi (1999) 2.2 VTI Motegi Coupe 2dr Petrol

This Honda Prelude Motegi is a very well-presented example of the rare 90’s luxury coupe, presented with genuine low mileage and comprehensive maintenance history.

Under the bonnet sits an VTEC 2. 2-litre inline-four producing 197bhp, driven through a five-speed manual transmission.

The odometer currently indicates 77, 489 miles from new. First registered in March 1999 as a Demonstrator for Currie Honda London, this Honda Prelude has been in the owners possession since 2018, and has just two previous keepers on the V5C log book.

The bodywork of this two-door Motegi Coupe is in very good condition having recently undergone a full detail. The waxed Nighthawk Black paintwork presents superbly, with nothing other than minor blemishes to mention. The car rides on the original 17-inch Honda/ Enkei alloy wheels, which are in perfect condition. The only modification to the car is the fitment of more up to date radio head unit, giving the car Bluetooth Audio and Telephone.

Moving inside, the heated fabric upholstery remains in good condition and is entirely original. The door shut trims appear with some minor scuffing from entering and exiting the vehicle, though the door cards and floor mats present well. The dashboard trim presents well with minimal surface scratches or scuffs, while the driver controls and switches all work as they should. It remains highly original, given the amount of Hondas of this period being modified and a high specification car with cruise control, heated seats and electric sunroof. The only additions are a Thatcham Approved Alarm and Immobiliser system.

The last service was undertaken in December 2024 at 77, 427, where technicians at Honda Specialist JDT carried out a major service, fitting new brake pads and discs all round and replacing the clutch. Previous to this the car has been dry stored since early 2019 after a service in January 2019 at 77, 401 miles, and in February 2018 at 73, 231 miles – both at a Honda main dealer. The most recent MOT test was on 13th December 2024 at 77, 414 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with one advisory noting slightly damaged tyres which have since been replaced by a full set of Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres.

Accompanying the vehicle is a comprehensive history file, the original owner’s manual and two stamped service books in their factory holder, along with loads service invoices and MOT certificates. Included in the history file is the original ‘red’ key, the original sales brochure and much more.

This Factory Motegi Honda Prelude is a superb example of an increasing rare Honda luxury coupe, presented with an extensive service history as shown below. There any many Prelude’s claiming to be Motegi editions this is due to Honda offering the kit as an accessory item however not many actually are factory built like this exceptional example. The factory built Motegi cars had larger 17 inch alloy wheels, the Motegi body kit, lowered sports suspension, additional front fog lights and the the rear badge to finish it off.

There is reported to be less than 200 Honda Prelude’s with this engine and gearbox registered in the UK, however the number of genuine Motegi’s is to be considerably lower making a fine addition to any collection of modern classics. Summary of service history:
