1976 Benelli Sei 750

My knowledge of the history of this Benelli goes back to approximately 2005 whereby my close friend, being a retired motorcycle restorer bought this as a box of bits for a project. The bike was completely rebuilt from the ground up but as a cafe racer and not a tourer having a full repaint and anything that needed renewing or servicing carried out. Certain modifications were made such as a modified seat unit which I believe was Moto Guzzi, and also the Rev counter and speedo cluster were my friends design. In fact I cannot take any credit for how the bike looks as when I bought it, and the reason I bought it was it just looked so incredible. The reason I was given the chance to buy the bike was that initially the bike would not run on 6 cylinders continuously and would oil the plugs and out of frustration because of the time and money my friend had spent lost all interest and offered it to me. I bought the bike in 2009 and at this time the bike had not been registered in the UK but it did have the Benelli authentication confirmation of manufacture in 1976. So after working on the bike and suspecting a piston ring problem I replaced the rings which stopped the oiling problem however I could find nothing wrong with the original set of rings fitted although they must have been defective in some way. The ignition has been converted to electronic and alloy wheel rims fitted to compliment the mark.
I eventually had the bike MOT`d in 2012 to obtain an age related number plate. The bike has all the relevant documents now and is registered as Historic so no MOT is required and it is road tax exempt. As it is shown on the log book I am the first legal owner of this machine in the UK.
I aim to give an honest view of the machine as it is and point out some issues that I think will need attention.
The carburettors need tuning properly as sometimes it misfires with sooty plugs so a professional carb set up is required.
The silencers although usable at the moment are showing some internal rust problems and will need some attention in the future.
The original builder set the wiring to an American standard for some reason which has the rear light on all the time with the ignition. It has always been my intension to rectify this situation but have not managed to get around to it.
The tyres, although showing a good tread depth are old so I would recommend to replace these before any serious riding is intended. I mentioned briefly earlier why I bought this Benelli and I can only say again it was such an outstanding looking machine and although I have not covered many miles on the bike it always turned heads wherever I went and was a topic of conversation simply because there are not many around especially in Cafe racer trim. To add to this and enhance the look my friend machined up the additional allow features such as the crankshaft end covers, fork rubber shroud retainers and rear shock absorber outer sleeves. I realise that generally the Benelli Sei 750 commands a top price in touring trim but as this machine has been modified I am not asking for a top price, however saying this a lot of the original parts such as the seat base and air box and speedo enclosure etc will be available with the bike along with three comprehensive maintenance and spare parts books on A3 spec paper so if the new owner wanted to return the bike to touring trim for an investment project then some of the parts are there.
