1998 BMW 5 Series E39 528i

This beautiful three owner, Glacier Green Metallic car was purchased new at Ocean BMW of Torbay on 26th June 1998 for £33680, the new discerning owner upgraded the great specification to an Automatic sports gearbox and contrasting English green leather, a rare and beautiful interior colour choice and in pristine condition.
The vehicle has 2 fully working keys and remotes, plus emergency keys, (including original BMW leather keyring), full handbook set, unused first aid kit under the passenger seat, original torch in the glove compartment and a complete original toolkit in the boot.
It's hard to believe that in one form or another the BMW 5-Series has been with us for nearly half a century. Those with longer memories will remember the early versions with 'interesting' handling. As the years passed, the 5 Series grew larger and more assured. Constant development from the Munich company ensured that the car was never anywhere but at the top of its class. The introduction of the fifth-generation E39 5-Series in April 1996 dealt the opposition a hammer blow, whilst a series of revisions in late 2000 saw BMW move the game on yet again.
There are not too many surprises with a 5-Series. You know it is going to be beautifully built, great to drive, understated and well equipped. This example has ice cold air-conditioning, sumptuous leather and classy wood trim throughout. The 5 speed automatic gearbox is wonderful and can be used in sports mode to manually change up or down as required. A fully stamped service book at BMW and independent specialists indicates how well looked after the car has been. The car was owned by the previous owner for 25 years and had it serviced at Ocean BMW Torbay for 25 years and apparently used it mainly for golfing trips and the odd holiday, later in its life the owner used the vehicle less but kept it serviced. A bout of ill health in 2018, saw it used very sparingly. This car is very original and with 152k miles on it after 27 years it's a rare find in today's E39 market.
The wonderful 2. 8 litre M52 straight 6 cylinder engine with its 24 valves revs freely and sounds truly wonderful, and provides an incredible luxurious and smooth ride. It is a clear indication of the impressive BMW service record. these cars were built in an era when they were simply over engineered and will drive for ever.
This is a bona fide classic BMW E39 in excellent condition overall.
I bought this car to drive and enjoy at the weekends and it has been a pleasure to own for the last 2 years.
I now have to reluctantly sell the car as I am joining the company car scheme and will lose my garage space for the new charger.
