Description
-Welsh grey, long wheelbase (109") Genuine Series II from 1961, not many of the utilities left as most where used to death.
-I believe this vehicle was found in a field around the late 90s, early 2000s and restored to an unknown condition, where I was told the engine was rebuilt and it was reconditioned. Then it’s been off the road for a number of years until around 2015, when a “light restoration” occurred over a few years. Where it had:
-New (to the car) bulkhead
-Full respray from a very faded Red to Welsh Grey.
-All sorts of little bits
-New wiring harness and lights.
-A lot of welding to the chassis.
Since then, its changed owners and made its way back to me a few years ago. Now I have another Land Rover and other projects and its unfortunately not being used much, which I don’t like seeing. I think its time the car had a proper life with another owner.
It needs a few little bits (see Bad points section) apart from these, it runs and drives lovely. It has an uprated heater (not out a Land Rover) which is fairly decent.
Good bits:
-2. 25 petrol with upgraded weber carb and recent tune up by local specialist, standard 4 speed manual gearbox with working high/ low range and selectable 4-wheel drive, no whines from the gearbox/ transfer case.
-Doesn’t wobble the steering wheel down the road.
-Recent front tyres was told the engine was rebuilt in circa 2000, however no paperwork to prove - it runs lovely.
-Coolant changed, engine oil and filter changed recently (comes with a drum of 20W 50 engine oil for future servicing)
- Had quite a bit of welding in its past, put it through an MOT to prove its condition. – even though its Tax and MOT exempt. I feel a second set of eyes is helpful.
-Nice Tonneau cover for rear load space and partial hood stick set for canvas.
-Have x4 new shock absorbers (not on the car) and other bits, along with repair operation manual in a box that comes with the sale.
“Bad” bits:
-Needs front door tops (could be repaired)
-Does leak a bit of oil (probably rear main) – doesn’t bother me.
-Some of the paint work is cracking/ discoloured in places.
-The bulkhead has some surface rust on the top corners, however nothing major and has been patched in the past.
-You’re welcome to bring a screwdriver…. To inspect the chassis. Conclusion:
-Selling as it doesn't get used as much as I'd like, and I have too many other vehicles/ projects.
-It’s not pristine otherwise it’d be £25K. It’s a perfectly usable Land Rover and it always -gets nice comments from people, out and about.
-Bank transfer on collection.
