Description
The appeal:
The TF marked the final development of the archetypal prewar MG body style - perhaps the prettiest of all. It is a car with personality which is reliable and easy to live with. The knowledge that spares, social and technical support, are all readily available, further explains its established classic status.
Description and history:
This is a home market example with the popular contemporary enhancements of wire wheels, luggage rack, badge bar, spot and fog lamps. It underwent a complete mid-life rebuilt in 1988 and was then semi-retired into a remarkably cossetted lifestyle. Documented mileages corroborate steady moderate use indicating 3787 miles by June 2011 and 6894 to-day. Nevertheless the records indicate regular annual services and it is worth noting that significant sums were spent on age related items, to keep everything up to scratch, particularly where rubber seals were concerned - new brake cylinders all round, new master cylinder, bushes etc. The chassis and underside have been waxoyled (twice, over the years!) and a windscreen washer unit installed along with a master switch for the electrics.
Current condition:
The paintwork is free from dings and scratches and reflects the overall condition of the car. Likewise, the replaced leather upholstery, hood and side-screens are equally unmarked and all the tyres are virtually new. The bulkhead toolbox contains a jack, a set of imperial measure spanners and a collection of touring spares. There is a pair of wind deflectors, not yet fitted, together with a workshop manual and driver's handbook; also a large file of background records. These include engineers' reports and restoration photos.
My old-school garagist likes to say : "He's a good'un", which rather sums it up.
