A SUMMARY
Genuine Mk2 Escorts are rare, and this 1600 Sport is a little gem. With its sporty appeal and minimal usage, it has withstood the test of time beautifully. A delightful example, ready to be enjoyed by its next owner.
THE BACKGROUND
In early 1979, Ford added a sporty touch to its popular Escort range by introducing the 1600 Sport. Featuring a two-door body, updated gear ratios, and a dynamic look, it was powered by the reliable 1. 6-litre Kent four-cylinder engine. The model quickly gained popularity and remains a favourite among Ford enthusiasts today.
The South African version of the 1. 6-litre Kent engine was locally cast with thicker cylinder walls, resulting in a stronger block suited to the country's driving conditions which sets it apart from the UK version.
CAR DESCRIPTION
This outstanding Mk2 Escort 1600 Sport has spent most of its life in South Africa and is finished in Cress Green with a new chocolate cloth interior. It features original factory Sport decals and spotlights, staying true to its period design. Manufactured at Ford's Halewood plant in 1980, it was one of the last heavy-duty two-door RS shells produced before being shipped to South Africa.
The car retains its original 1600cc Kent engine, with recent servicing including an oil change, new plugs, and fresh oil and filters. The gearbox oil has also been replaced, ensuring it’s fully ready for its new owner. It also benefits from a new battery, solenoid & starter motor.
It has been driven sparingly, only on dry days, and is fitted with four Pirelli Cinturato tyres, plus a full-sized spare.
The car is MOT and tax-exempt, making it an excellent choice for any classic car or Ford enthusiast.
Collection form Leeds or the vehicle can be shipped at the buyers expense anywhere in the UK using an insured delivery company.
