Description
Here is my much loved E Type S3, my first "classic" bought in October 1992. Purchased from a neighbour who bought two in 1987 as investments. Sadly for him, he lost money on both. Happy for me.
It is to standard specification and very original.
Deep dark blue with biscuit trim and sparkling chrome.
It has benefited from rebuilt doors and refurbished bonnet, beautifully repaired and fitted, not pattern replacement units.
A UK specification, matching numbers car complete with Heritage certificate and a file of MoT cerificates 1976 to 2019 and invoices for service and parts over my ownership.
No rust that I can see, paintwork really good in original Dark Blue shade.
The biscuit leather is in excellent condition, only the driver's seat showing creasing but no tears. The rear +2 seats are unmarked, unused.
A steel electrically operated sun-roof is fitted.
Stainless steel exhaust.
Mechanically it is original. The MoTs are witness to the mileage being correct. There have been running repairs and invoices are on file. Upkeep since early 2011 has been entrusted to Winspeed Motor Sport in Guildford (the only engineers I have found who actually understand the V12.)
No major rebuild of the engine has been undertaken. Oil pressure is acceptable. I use Valvoline VR70 20/ 50 racing oil (and two full cans come with the car !)
Cooling is no problem with the standard fans and a new (July 2024) thermostatic switch.
A replacement alternator fitted at 70963 miles securely charges the new (August 2024) battery. I bought this car because an E Type is a "must" in your life. A S3 because I am 6'1'' and appreciate the extra space of the 2+2 and was not looking for a competition car (those came later).
I have all the MoTs to 2019 and all the parts and work invoices I have paid are on file.
Built 7th June 1973, registered in Cheshire 3rd August to catch the new registration suffix.
It led a busy life for its first thirteen years reaching 47000 miles. There followed limited use of a few hundred per year including what appears to be 18 months off the road 1989-91 in the hands of my neighbour/ dealer at the time.
My ownership reflects the second extensive use period, with one or two low years when I was doing high rally mileage in other cars.
It is an outstanding touring car. Most of the 40, 000 or so miles accumulated in my ownership have been long-distance tours/ holidays all over Europe. Ample luggage space, the V12's turbine smoothness, comfortable ride and certainly quick enough. What is not to like ?
Amusing when pushing fairly hard on a track. Most of the F1 circuits in Europe have been "tested" and a couple of manufacturer test bankings experienced. 110mph around the top of a seemingly vertical bank was novel. The E Type was unperturbed and stable.
However, recent circumstances have severely reduced use and I am downsizing, (disposing of three classic cars.) They need use and cherishing, especially use.
So, time to find a new appreciative owner.
This car is in fine condition, especially the body, (so expensive to repair if you have to), not claiming to be concours (as reflected in the asking price) and a very good entry into E Type ownership.
