Sold new onto a Herefordshire shooting estate and used as a “beaters” truck , until it was no longer required, it then passed through 2 owners who just left it parked up in a shed until I acquired it 3 years ago. It was completely original and un molested but needing some love! I have subsequently refurbished it where necessary but wanted to retain it’s “working “ clothes so I’ve left the aged paintwork just as it was. Fully rejuvenated mechanically and electrically I am forced to part with it due to an impending house move which will mean I’ve nowhere to keep it under cover.
Firstly the main chassis rails were in good condition with no patches, I have replaced all the outriggers and rear crossmember. Bulkhead is original with fresh footwell’s welded in. All welding was done by an ex employee of marsland chassis to a good standard finished off with waxoyl and fluid film to preserve it.
This was one of the first to receive the 2 1/ 4 petrol engine which runs very smoothly after having a full service, rebuilt original carb and fuel pump.
Original radiator recored with rebuilt water pump and all new hoses. New fuel tank and sensor.
All brake and clutch hydraulic parts replaced with new shoes. New autosparks wiring loom with new lights and a dynamator in place of original dynamo ( looks like a dynamo but has alternator internals)
Finished off with new Exmoor trim canvas and new seats.
Original wheels blasted and powder coated then shod with new tyres and tubes.
Rebuilt original wiper motors with stainless arms and blades.
Gearbox does not jump out of second!
Various steering joints replaced etc etc
Door tops replaced, they were too far gone.
I’ve probably forgotten some of what I’ve done but there is very little left to do, horn has stopped working recently, not sure why but there’s always something to mend on a series landrover.!Unmodified original series 2 with all its original patina just like they were when they were a common sight, not got shiny paint and over restored like so many have been. Few owners for its age.
