Description

Genuine medical reason for sale of my 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle.
The car was imported by the previous owner from California Cars, Simi Valley, California back in 2019
This is an original car that has not been restored and is in excellent structural and rust free condition.
Since importing to the UK the previous owner spent considerable time treating the underside with Rustbuster wax and detailing chassis components throughout.
The body is in remarkable condition, totally rust free and in its original colour combination of cranberry red with black stripes. It appears to have had some new paint but not since importing to the UK.
The paint work is not in 100% perfect and has a few stone chips on the bonnet and some minor lacquer peel that could potentially be eliminated with detailing the paint.
The overall appearance is stunning as seen from the pictures and is a true iconic looking movie car.
The interior is the original colour of white vinyl and in good condition and the head lining is as new with no sagging or blemishes.
The dashboard is in perfect condition with no cracks or fading and has the full SS package including Factory tachometer
Remote driver door mirror
Rear anti roll bar
Boxed rear radius arms
12 bolt positraction differential etc
Steel Rally wheels
The full Z15 package for 1972.
Advertised by California Cars and purchased as an SS. In 1972 GM stopped explicitly referencing the SS on the VIN tag and had become a trim option only.
I have the original Protecto plate with the name and address of the original owner in 1972 and the original owner manual.
Mechanically the car is in excellent condition. The engine is a non-matching 355 with Edelbrock Performer RPM aluminium heads. It has an Edelbrock inlet manifold and Edelbrock 600 CFM carburettor.
It has coated long tune headers and a full 2 ½ inch exhaust with H pipe and flowmaster silencers, giving an amazing sound.
Under the hood everything still looks new the engine runs perfectly. It has a Turbo hydraulic automatic gearbox fitted with shift kit and high stall torque converter. The axle ratio is 3. 08.
Engine oil pressure is excellent and water temperature never goes hot. The power steering and brakes work perfectly and I had the rear springs, front shocks and lower ball joints in the control arm replaced in late 2024 improving the ride and handling of the car.
The previous owner was a keen enthusiast and ex lotus cars engineer and recently replaced the following parts
Brand new fuel tank from US Tanks with the correct notched corners to suit the 2 ½ inch exhaust.
New tank sender
New MSD under header Super Conductor plug leads
New Mallory distributor cap
New Petronix ignition coil
New Autolite spark plugs
New aluminium transmission sump
New heater fan
New GM front spring platforms.
Additional low tension wiring to coil
New battery
The car was correctly imported to the UK with all paperwork present including California title and current UK V5. It is registered as a historical vehicle for road tax purposes and I personally drove it back from the Gower Peninsula in Wales to London personally with no issues.
My intention was to improve this vehicle even further but since shattering my dominant shoulder in September 2024 I can no longer hold a half filled kettle, let alone work on a car with screwdrivers, socket wrenches and power tools. My intention was to detail the paintwork myself and fix any niggling issues with the car and even have the touch up paint and brand new tools to do the job. The following need attention to make this a 100% perfect vehicle
Left turn signal bulb is not flashing on the dashboard (requires investigation)
Windscreen washer motor not pumping fluid (Squirter nozzles need connecting and test of power to the washer pump)
Dashboard Clock does not work (check your watch)
Original Radio has been disconnected and a new modern stereo installed in the glovebox (Neither tested as the sound of a V8 is all you need! )
New heater fan not currently working (requires investigation)
Gear selector indicator on the dashboard is disconnected ( it’s an automatic that goes forwards and backwards, if you can’t work out what gear you are in, you should probably buy a bike )
After market fuel pressure gauge not working (requires investigation)
All other gauges work perfectly well as indicated by the pictures.
There are additional pictures and videos on my you tube channel under ChevelleSSClassic, it is highliy recommended viewing. Further pictures and videos can be sent to prospective buyers. Viewing is highly recommendedThis is a truly iconic American muscle car that turns heads by its looks and sound! A rare sight on today’s UK roads which will attract admirers wherever it goes.
