Description

Armstrong Siddeley was established in 1919 when the huge Armstrong Whitworth engineering combine joined the Coventry based Siddeley-Deasy company. Introduced in 1923, the 14hp ‘Four-Fourteen’ was the company’s first four-cylinder model and was of an advanced overhead valve design at a time when most U. K. manufacturers were producing side valve engines. The 1, 852cc unit drove the wheels via a three-speed gearbox centrally mounted between the engine and spiral bevel rear axle. It is a large and imposing 5 seater.

This car is an ultra-rare example of the later Mark 2 specification featuring many improvements to the original design, particularly the introduction of a new chassis with four wheel brakes and semi-elliptic front and rear springs, to replace the cantilever springs used on the Mark 1 car.

The radiator features the marque’s distinctive Sphinx badge. Armstong Siddeley had considerable success with the 14HP, producing over 13, 000 examples. This was a quality car with the ‘Cotswold’ offered to the public at the attractive price of £325 ex-works.

First registered in April 1926 NE 6543 was comprehensively restored over six years after being rescued form a shed on the island of Anglesey. It completed the London-Brighton classic car run starting at Brooklands in May 1994 and was a regular participant on the South Coast rally scene.

During 2019 it was recommissioned after a period of three years when its elderly owner had the car in storage. At the time all four black wings were repainted and the car was regularly used throughout the summer and autumn. An older restoration, fitted with the wonderful rear ‘Auster screen' and with full weather equipment, the car can be used ‘as is' or improved further over time. Still bearing it's valuable and original two letter registration.

This is a running and driving example with some slight tears in the canvas but otherwise impeccable condition throughout, £19, 995 open to offers as house move forces sale of this treasured piece of motoring history.
