FABULOUS 1974 TRIUMPH STAG CONVERTIBLE IN INCA YELLOW- HISTORIC VEHICLE-STUNNING.

FANTASTIC V8 IN ALL ROUND ORIGINAL UNMOLESTED CONDITION.

MICHELOTTI AND THE TRIUMPH STAG.

LIKE OTHER NEW TRIUMPHS OF THIS PERIOD, THE STAG WAS NOT BORN IN A PRODUCT PLANNING DEPARTMENT, BUT IN MICHELOTTI'S FERTILE BRAIN. FINDING HIMSELF AT A LOOSE END IN 1965 ( THE LITTLE ITALIAN'S HYPERACTIVE LIFESTYLE, MUST HAVE MEANT THAT HE HAD HALF A DAY TO SPARE!), HE DECIDED TO BUILD A SPECIAL SHOW CAR BASED ON THE TRIUMPH 2000; IT WOULD BE A CONVERTIBLE, STILL WITH FOUR SEATS, THOUGH WITH REDUCED LEG-ROOM.

AS EVERY TRIUMPH ENTHUSIAST KNOWS, THE TRIUMPH STAG WAS A DIRECT DESCENDANT OF THE TRIUMPH 2000, YET THE STAG WHICH WENT ON SALE IN 1970 WAS VERY DIFFERENT FROM THE ORIGINAL PROTOTYPE BY THAT TIME, IT WAS UNIQUE IN ALMOST EVERY WAY.

THE EASY - BUT QUITE INACCURATE - WAY TO SUMMARISE THE STAG'S ENGINEERING IS AS A FOUR-SEATER CABRIOLET CAR WITH A SHORT WHEELBASE VERSION OF THE 2000'S UNDERPAN, SUSPENSION AND TRANSMISSION, FITTED WITH A V8 3 LITRE ENGINE. IN FACT' IT WAS NEVER QUITE ALL OF THOSE THINGS AT THE SAME TIME. WHEN THE FLOORPAN WAS A SHORTENED VERSION OF THE 2000 DESIGN, THE V8 ENGINE HAD NOT YET BEEN ADOPTED. THE TRANSMISSION BECAME MORE AND YET MORE SPECIALISED AS DEVELOPMENT PROCEEDED. EVERYTHING FROM WHEELS, TO BRAKES AND TO THE BASIC STRUCTURE, CHANGED PERSISTENTLY AS TIME PASSED, AND BY THE TIME THE STAG WENT ON SALE, THERE WERE VERY FEW PARTS STILL IN COMMON WITH THE 2000.

DURING THIS PERIOD, TRIUMPH WORKED OUT ITS STRATEGY FOR AN ENTIRE NEW RANGE OF ENGINES. EVENTUALLY THE COMPANY DECIDED TO DEVELOP SINGLE OVERHEAD CAMSHAFT UNITS, SLANT-FOUR-CYLINDER, AND THE CLOSELY-RELATED 90-DEGREE 3. 0 V8. EVEN BEFORE IT RAN, SAAB OF SWEDEN HAD PLACED A HUGE ORDER FOR SLANT-FOURS, WHICH ENSURED THAT V8 DEVELOPMENT AND PRODUCTION HAD TO LAG BEHIND, BUT THE EXCITING NEW UNIT WOULD BE READY IN 1970.

THE MICHELOTTI EXQUISITELY STYLED TRIUMPH STAG CONVERTIBLE 3. 0 V8 OFFERED HERE SPENT 16 YEARS IN THE SUNNY AND WARM CLIMATE OF NEW SOUTH WALES, AUSTRALIA BETWEEN 1995 & 2011WHICH WILL HAVE PLAYED A PART IN IT'S SOLIDITY TODAY. WHEN IT RETURNED TO THE UK IN 2011 THE CAR UNDERWENT AN EXTENSIVE RESTORATION, BARE METAL RESPRAY AND COMPLETE ENGINE OVERHALL. OVER 2023-2024 THIS PROCESS WAS PRETTY MUCH REPEATED WHEN NEW TIMING CHAINS WERE ALSO FITTED. THE FOREGOING IS EVIDENCED BY PHOTOGRAPHY AND INVOICES. UNSURPRISINGLY, THE STAG REMAINS VERY IMPRESSIVE IN ALL RESPECTS TODAY. THE GLEAMING INCA YELLOW PAINT WORK IS PAR EXCELLENCE. THERE ARE NO DENTS, SCRATCHES, SCUFFS OR BLEMISHES TO BE FOUND AND NO EVIDENCE OF RUST/ ROT. THE CHROME WORK IS VERY GOOD AS IS THE MOHAIR HOOD WHICH REMAINS WIND AND WATERTIGHT. THE STRIKING ORIGINAL TRIUMPH WHEELS WHICH HAVE UNDERGONE REFURBISHMENT SIT ON TYRES WITH PLENTY TREAD. SINCE THE SAID RECENT RESTORATION, THE CAR HAS COVERED VERY LITTLE MILES, IT IS PRESENTLY PART OF A COLLECTION OF CLASSICS KEPT AND MAINTAINED IN A HEATED & FULLY ENCLOSED WATER TIGHT ENVIROMENT.
AS STATED THIS STUNNING SPORTS 4 SEATER ROADSTER CONVERTIBLE IS IN SUPER ALL ROUND CONDITION IN ACCORDANCE WITH IT'S ORIGINAL DESIGN/ SPECIFICATON. THE STAG DRIVES AND STOPS GREAT, AND SO MUCH FUN, TURNING HEADS WHEREVER IT TRAVELS AND NO WONDER GIVEN THE CAR HAVING IT'S ORIGINAL BEAUTIFUL APPEARANCE/ CONDITION.

AS STATED ALL BODY PANELS ARE STRAIGHT AND TRUE. THERE ARE NO DENTS ETC. THE GLEAMING INCA YELLOW PAINTWORK IS IN EXCELLENT ORDER PROVIDING A DEEP SHINE. THERE ARE NO SCRATCHES, SCUFFS OR MARKS. THE MOHAIR HOOD IS PERFECT. IT IS WIND AND WATER TIGHT. THE ORIGINAL TRIUMPH RO-STYLE WHEELS AND TYRES ARE IN GREAT SHAPE AS IS THE CHROME WORK. IN ESSENCE, THIS IS A TRULY STUNNING EXAMPLE OF THE CLASSIC TRIUMPH STAG SPORTS ROADSTER/ GRAND TOURER WITH 3. 0 V8 ENGINE.

THE INTERIOR IS ALSO IN VERY GOOD ORDER, ORIGINAL, CLEAN AND UNCLUTTERED. THERE ARE NO TEARS, UNSIGHTLY SCUFFS OR MARKS, SIGNS OF WEAR OR DISCOLORATION. ALL IS IN TACT, FUNCTIONING AS INTENDED, COMFORTABLE AND PLEASANT TO THE EYE, EVERTHING IS OPERATIONAL AND FUNCTIONING AS ORIGINALY INTENDED.

THE CHASSIS AND UNDERCARRIAGE IS CLEAN AND SOLID IN ALL AREAS, AS ARE THE FLOOR PANS ETC. THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF ROT/ RUST ANYWHERE.

THE BOOT - AGAIN VERY CLEAN, SOLID AND UN-CLUTTERED.

ENGINE BAY - AS PER THE BOOT.

ENGINE - THE 3. 0 V8 ENGINE IS RELIABLE, AGILE AND RESPONSIVE, STARTS FIRST TIME OF ASKING EVERY TIME. IT SOUNDS GREAT THROUGH THE GEARBOX AND EXHAUST SYSTEM.

TRANSMISSION - THE AUTOMATIC GEAR BOX IS LIKE THE ENGINE, AGILE, RESPONSIVE AND SMOOTH TO THE CHANGE.

BRAKES - NEW BRAKES FITTED AS PART OF THE RECENT RESTORATION -SPOT ON ! (CONTINUED TO HISTORY BOX). ALL IN ALL, THIS IS A FANTASTIC 4 SEATER SPORTS ROADSTER/ GRAND TOURER CONVERTIBLE WHICH IS MUCH ADMIRED AND SO MUCH FUN TO DRIVE.
