Description
The mechanics have always been a strong point, with the little diesel proving to be ultra reliable and actually quite nippy for its 54hp! Although she hasn't done much mileage recently we have enjoyed it for the odd beer festival last year. 5 Speed gearbox keeps up happily with modern traffic, and the temperature sits on the button. Starts first time even after it's been sat for a few months. Since the restoration we have also carried out the following work.
- Gearbox linkage bushes
- Water pump, stat, temp sensor and coolant
- rear break cylinders replaced
- gearbox oil changed
- recent service, oil/ filters
- battery
- wiper blades
- new tyres all round
Interior could do with a tidy up to return it to glory, although it does come with mk1 GTI seats, a nice touch. The dash panel and radio could do with replacing.
Some bits the new owner might consider doing,
New rear bearings
New radiator (it's fine but does weep a little)
New tachometer (speedometer not working)Having been bought by our company director 10 years ago as a promotional vehicle for a microbrewery and tap room, The caddy underwent back to chassis bodywork and paint 5 years ago. The vibrant Pacific Blue paint is still in very good condition, although there is the odd mark now.
All in all a super reliable vintage caddy, that hasn't been modified much. The little diesel sits happily at 60 and sips fuel. Enjoy as is or put in a bit more work to tidy the interior.
