Description

Selling our beloved 1974 Toyota Celica TA22.

We purchased the car in early summer 2023 and the car soon underwent extensive amounts of work in the first few months, many parts were reconditioned, replaced or upgraded.
During this period the steering system had new inner and outer track rod ends, steering idler and pitman arms alongside fully reconditioned front struts with KYB inserts and new top mounts.
The front brake callipers have been rebuilt with new pistons and seals, with the front wheel bearings also being replaced.
On the rear axle, the vehicle had new wheel bearings, genuine TRD green adjustable shock absorbers which, in combination with the installed springs and steering parts, complement the tight feel, not only in a straight line but also around corners!
The differential had a new input shaft seal, main housing gasket and the axle's oil was replaced.

The engine has always been serviced with Millers Classic 20W50 and within the last 10, 000 miles it has had a radiator upgrade to a 3-core aluminium radiator with a new thermostat, water pump and also a new interior heater matrix, all filled with OE Toyota Long-life coolant. The heating system works as intended which is a plus in our climate!
Various seals and gaskets have been replaced such as the intake and exhaust manifold gaskets, valve cover, gearbox output shaft and injector seals. Yes! Injector seals, more to that in the next part ;).
The entire electrical system was either upgraded or overhauled with an alternator upgrade from 40/ 50A to 85A, bringing the car more into the modern world.
Any electrical component, switch, bulb or gauge in the car is working as it should.

Majority of the interior has been removed, modern sound dampening installed, whilst the black leather seats, door cards and dashboard were reupholstered. In combination with the headlining this compliments the black exterior, creating the very desirable ‘black on black’ look.
Any part removed was installed with fresh hardware, nuts, bolts and clips.

Other things addressed include items such as new window regulators, windscreen rubbers and door hinges.

This field only allows for certain amounts of characters and there is so much more to be mentioned. Happy to talk in more detail with any serious buyers, feel free to contact us anytime for a chat. There are countless pictures available from the various stages of work which we are more than happy to share with interested buyers. Building a extensive history for a 50 year old car can be an impossible task, however we have been able to piece it together as much as possible.

For the first four decades the car spend its life in NSW, Australia, mostly in the Sydney area, it started life as a red Celica TA22 SOHC, with manual gearbox and brown interior.
During these years the car had a period correct Twin-Cam 2TG-EU engine with EFI from a TE71 Levin with T50 5-Speed gearbox installed.
Throughout the early/ mid 2000's the car was imported to Europe, registered in the UK but found its way to southern France. Thanks to these factors this is a very rare opportunity to own a 50 year old Celica that in the course of its age has had very minimal welding or corrosion repairs and it also won't need any!
During it's stay in France the car was painted in black to complement it's black interior.

The engine had a full rebuild and with the EFI System on the Twin Cam engine with the fully programmable ECU, it is a blast but also a very reliable car to drive. Turn the key and go, no carburettor problems on cold and damp mornings!

During our ownership the whole fuel system was redone, a low pressure and high pressure fuel pump have been installed with a new high pressure line through the car, return line, an additional fuel filter in the engine bay as well as tank venting, as intended.

The car gets incredible amounts of attention wherever it goes, turns heads and wins prizes at meets. We have had countless encounters with very interested enthusiasts and people who owned MK1 Celicas decades ago.
"Would have never thought I will see one of these on the road again!" is a favourite comment.

A modern Bluetooth radio is hidden in the glovebox to not spoil the classic dashboard whilst still allowing for connectivity. The period correct parcel shelve speakers with a modern dashboard speaker, is certainly a nice touch also!

The best times to reach me by phone are as follows, Monday to Thursday - 6pm to 10pm, Friday 5pm to 10pm and anytime at the weekends.
