Description

1967 Leyland double deck bus
Converted into camper

We’ve owned this bus over ten years and in that time had many weeks away in it.
The bus was originally new to Eastbourne corporation and so i had the bus painted into its original livery with original adverts on the sides.
Inside is a well converted living area with seating areas, kitchen, worktops, etc
It has two fridges, gas hob, gas water heater, gas fire, and gas oven, all the electrics run off a 12volt leasure battery which can be charged when the engine is running. It also has 240volt hook up. Gas bottle lives under the stairs.
Hot running water is supplied via the water heater and electric 12v pump running from a fitted 100 litre tank fitted under the seats and filled from the outside.
Upstairs is fitted with a European king size bed in a larger bedroom area, with shower and seats for travelling passengers to view the world as it goes by.
There is a single bedroom fitted with built in bed, lighting etc
The bus itself is a Leyland pd2 fitted with Leyland 0600 engine, 4 speed manual gearbox, synchromesh 3-4 crash 1-2
It has manual steering and is reasonably easy to drive.
Top speed is around 45mph
Engine, gearbox and running gear all serviced within the last 12 months.
Tyres are 10. 00 x 20s and are all in excellent condition, front tyres are within 5 years old.
Bad points
Interior needs some time either replacing bits and pieces or tidying up, one of the fridges doesn’t work will need regasing. The fire needs a thermal coupler I think,
The engine runs and drives but the head gasket is letting exhaust gases through into the water. We used it like this last year on several events but kept the speed right down, stopping every 10 miles or so and adding water. One of our trips was 3 hours and she drove back fine but at no more than 30 and topping the water up often.
When I got her 10 years ago we replaced the head gaskets and had the heads skimmed and pressure tested so we suspect it’s only the gasket at fault.
Unfortunately I’ve not the time to fix it.
This bus holds lots of memories for us and we’ve had loads of fun with it. I hope someone likeminded buys her and carry’s on the journey.
