Description
Mercedes 5 litre V8, automatic, (1984), MoT’d, now historic (MoT exempt, no road tax required from Apr 25).
Bare metal respray in Mercedes pearlescent Ivory (code 658), new rubber seals all round. New black soft top with cream interior, piano black dash fascia with matching wooden gear stick and semi-dish chrome steering wheel. New carpets, chrome pedals, Bluetooth stereo, Clarion speakers. Black leather 2+2 seating with rear seat belts, new Windschott removable wind breaker. New alloy wheels, new Bridgestone tyres, new brake callipers and pads, original refurbished Mexican Hat alloy wheels with new tyres also included.
V8 runs beautifully, good motorway acceleration, fuelled with super unleaded since engine overhaul. Mercedes’ famous Sport Light easily keeps up with modern traffic, this being one of the rarer powerful 5 litre engines.
Chrome work good, though slight almost unnoticeable delamination top of rear right bumper (pictured). Sun visors replaced since photos taken.
Reset and ready for the next forty years…I have been seeking a white 5 litre V8 for some years, knowing what I wanted to do… I have always liked the Pearlescent Ivory that Mercedes painted their SL190 from 1955 and thought how good the SL500 would look in ivory with a black interior and soft top. The piano black internal fascia, black wooden steering wheel and gear selector along with the chrome accents complete the look.
The car is reset with many replaced parts: oils, filters, belts, fuel and brake pipes, carpets, wheels, roof… too many to list; I have spent way more than I meant to.
And no, it doesn’t have a hard top… you wouldn’t thank me if I supplied you one; they are heavy and awkward, take up too much room in your garage, the cover rips, the trolley rusts and you never fit it… trust me, I’ve had many of these SLs.
Everything within reason has been done, it is a practical classic suitable for daily driving… it’s not a low owner, low miler, garage queen; this is for you to enjoy owning, driving and appreciate a beautiful piece of timeless German engineering.
Coming from a private collection which includes Mercedes SL190, Ferrari and Aston Martin.
