This 1906 Renault VB carries imposing formal coachwork by J Rothschild et Fils, a Paris-based carriage maker that had been founded by Austrian-born Josef Rothschild in 1838. The firm ended up being taken over by two of its employees, engineers Rheims and Auscher, changing its name to J Rothschild et Fils, Rheims et Auscher Successeurs. Rothschild was notable for its pioneering use of shaped metal in motor bodies. The factory closed in 1930.
The Renault was delivered new to the Lefèvre Utile, France's oldest manufacturer of biscuits, and was kept by the family until 2003. The bodywork is in excellent original condition - never repainted - while the interior too is in excellent condition (the front seats were re-upholstered some 10 years ago). The chassis likewise is in superb original condition. A wonderful evocation of motoring from 'La Belle Époque', this magnificent motor car is offered with an FFVE certificate.
